1,2,3,14 - Vertigo sucks
I'm sure there are some U2 fans here who won't be able to admit that this song really sucks hard, but face it - it does. That ridiculous iPod spot doesn't help things either. This song is no better than a garage band. People are saying that the new U2 is the best yet. That's not possible - no album with this piece of doo song on it can be the best of anything.
Agree or disagree, it matters not. This song, objectively, sucks.

(Raises hand, then gives up with a sigh).. oh, never mind. It's not really worth the effort, is it?

Oh yeah, I don't care much for the song either (I do like most of the album). Probably would like it more if I didn't hear it about every five minutes the TV or radio is on.

I like the song, its not a really good song, but I like it.
at your 1 2 3 14 call out. What does that mean anyway, what impelled the 2ers to skip from tres to catorce?

I'm not a U2 fan at all. I like some of their stuff, but can't stand much of their stuff. So I feel I am objective and I love Vertigo. May not be a great or particularly deep song, but it's a great rock song and it makes me sing along and feel good. What else do you want from a song?
And I do believe the skipping from three to 14 has something to do with the producer on the album, as has been posted elsewhere. The guy did their first three and is back for this album, number 14, if I remember right.

Steve Lillywhite produced Boy, October and War... the first three U2 albums.
He returns to produce How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, U2's fourteenth album.
1, 2, 3, 14
I'd say most U2 fans got it after a minute of thought... I mean, it's the fourteenth album, there's your first clue right there.

DVD Josh,
Could you please explain to me why you thought you needed a totally different thread to express your opinion? Did you want to include your unclever title and not have it buried in the appropriate thread that discusses the latest U2 album.

It's like saying, "Agree or disagree, carrots suck." Well, maybe to YOU they do, but music, like food (maybe even like movies?), is a matter of personal preference, which Josh apparently has not yet realized. Too funny.
PERSONALLY, I ruined the song for myself by listening to it too often when it was the only new U2 I could get, and the commercials and CSI placement didn't help the overkill either. I'm just happy to have the rest of the CD now, which I PERSONALLY like quite a bit...

No song ever "objectively" sucks. Music is entirely subjective. One person's most hated song, is another persons favorite song. Neither is more or less "right" than the other.
But in this case, I agree that Vertigo pretty much sucks. The guitar riff is annoying, as are most of the vocals (especially the yeah yeah yeahs at the end) and the lyrics are terrible.
Thankfully the rest of the CD is great though.

DUDE - I can't believe you actually posted an anti-U2 thread here!!! People might hunt you down and kill you.
See a thread I posted a few weeks ago on why "Uno, dos, tres, catorce" sucks. I think people wanted me castrated and urinated-upon.
The song still sucks. Maybe it'll get better after I buy the CD and give it a listen in context, and in relation to the other songs.

LOL - I knew there'd be backlash
I do like U2, quite a bit actually. I do only have both GH albums however, but I think of them as a seminal, groundbreaking band. This song sucks. I just hope that people aren't being fanboys about them and refusing to admit the obvious - that this song blows (and the iPod spot is worse). I am an enormous fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, and I can say without a doubt that Disarm sucks.
As for why I didn't put it in the other thread - that's a thread about the album, this is about the song.

I think Vertigo is kick-ass songwriting---it's pretty damn hard to write a chorus that catchy. Now you want to talk about a lame U2 song, I'd have to go with "Numb"....that's just brutal.

I'm not a U2 fan by any means, but I do enjoy some of their stuff. I love vertigo, personally. Great video as well. Can't wait for the DVD so that I can watch it on my 100" screen. I believe I shall yack.
