DISCO, Yay or Nay ?

What do you guys think of DIsco ?

I absolutely love Disco, still the best music to dance too. Sure some of the songs haven't aged well and are tacky now but look how many have been re recorded and been hits.

I think this current generation needs to be exposed to the original disco classics

Honestly, I looove disco. You guys should check out Soul Jazz's British Hustle compilation. It collects British funk & disco from the '70s and early '80s. Very good, despite some Old Navy Cargo Pants imagery I get from the music.

I'm sick to death of the *really* played out stuff... especially 'Celebration', 'YMCA', and 'I Will Survive'. I do really like some of the stuff that's played a bit less often... 'Don't Leave Me This Way, 'Upside Down', 'Knock On Wood', 'Heaven Knows', 'Got to be Real', 'Haven't Stop Dancin' Yet' and 'Macho Man'.

Disco and funk are good people. I've got 7 discs that cover the genre well: Pure Funk Vol. 1 - 2, Pure Disco Vol. 1 - 3 and Millennium Funk Party 1 and 2. Some overlap, but good overall programs.

According to most people, the fact that I like disco and techno kind of takes points off my heterosexuality.

DISCO FOREVER! WOO!

I don't mind listening to Disco once in a while in a club. Wouldn't listen to it at home, though.

I think Jello Biafra said it best in the song, "70s Rock Must Die" by his group Lard.

"My Saturday Night Fever fantasy:
Lock the Bee-gees in a pinto and ram it from the rear!
Burn Baby!"

in my experience it is the people with no rhythm who hate disco

anyone who likes to dance and can groove a bit appreciates the disco beats

I don't care for it as a whole, but there are several individual songs that I like.

And there's a cover of I Will Survive by either Violent Femmes or Cake that I think is great.

I think it's just the opposite, actually. Disco was invented so people with no sense of rhythm can dance just like the rest of us. Personally I don't need a thumping bass drum every quarter note to tell me where the downbeat is...

don't know about the Femmes, but Cake's cover is brilliant.
