Best Film of 1995 (ongoing survey)

I know we've got polls like this all the time around here, but I figure this one will be a little more comprehensive and perhaps even informative.

This thread will be for your pick for best film released during 1995 (think Oscar considerations for what's eligible). I'm not making it a poll because whether you like it or not, that would influence some people's choice.

Results will be posted in this thread, and all subsequent threads for each year, and they will be ongoing... so you can still vote here even weeks after other year's polls have begun.

Please start your post with your #1 film from 1995 (try to limit it to one - after all, that's the point - two at the most (I'll split the vote)), and yes, discussions are more than welcome!

1) Leaving Las Vegas

Here's the rest of my list from '95 to give you some ideas (but please remember don't limit your choices to what's here... I may have hated your favorite of '95 (heck, I hated Usual Suspects, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wins)):

2) Exotica
3) Dead Man Walking
4) Strange Days
5) Apollo 13
6) Heat
7) Mr. Holland's Opus
8) Before Sunrise
9) Kids
10) Toy Story
11) Wild Reeds
12) Casino
13) Basketball Diaries
14) Seven
15) Braveheart

Edited after having seen Wild Reeds tonight.

Going to go out on a limb and say:
Twelve Monkeys
This is a movie I enjoy a little more every time I view it. It's about time for Terry Gilliam to have something new out, isn't it?

Runners-up would include "Babe," "Crumb" and "Apollo 13."

'95 was not a particularly good year for movies to me - stuff like "Braveheart," "The Usual Suspects" and "Seven" (I will NOT call it 'Se7en') are good movies that are a little overhyped IMHO.

Hey Jon, I think that you should start thinking about closing some of the older polls. I know you said you want them to be on-going. But if that happens, this whole board will be cluttered with these threads, and nothing else can be posted without being superceded by them.

But that's the whole idea!!!!

Yeah, I knew that would happen eventually - How 'bout right now we close 2000 and even 1996 since the results are clear there... and let the others stay open for a bit.

I can't close them myself, can I? I don't think so... of course, you could give me mod powers! If I can close them myself, please send me an email and I'll do so with those 2 right now. If I can't though, please go ahead and close '96 and 2000.

Exotica, which would also be my pick for best of the decade. An absolutely remarkable film.

My full top ten, off the top of my head and very subject to alteration:

1) Exotica
2) The Usual Suspects
3) Se7en
4) Leaving Las Vegas
5) Crumb
6) Dead Man Walking
7) Casino
8) Babe
9) Sense and Sensibility
10) Braveheart

torr-

I own the director's cut dvd and I quite enjoy it.
It clive barker's best stuff apart from the original hellraiser.
I like the hybrid of part philip marlowe part supernatural part gorefest.

I'll agree. It was a pleasant surprise - the trailers certainly didn't paint it that well though.

That being said, I'm a little surprised you picked Showgirls over Braveheart (which isn't even on your list!). While you may not be a fan of the film, it certainly deserves to be in the Top 25 of that year, IMHO.

Personally, I feel that Braveheart was the best film of the year. No doubt.

Cheers!

1) The Usual Suspects

3) The Brothers McMullen

edited to remove Dead Man and Welcome to the Dollhouse. That's what I get for counting on IMDb.
