'The Wrestler' D:Daron Aronofsky, w/Mickey Rourke

surprised there wasn't a thread on this knowing the Aronofsky fans on here.
http://imdb.com/title/tt1125849/
'The wrestler is the story of retired professional wrestler, Randy "The Ram" Robinson, making his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival. The film stars Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei and is directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream). '

They're also filming the last couple of scenes on March 14th and 15th in Dover, New Jersey at the Baker Theatre in association with Ring of Honor Wrestling, if anyone's interested in seeing them film the movie, also witnessing a great pro wrestling card.

They're prob gonna film in between the matches.

I'd def. go to this if i had the money or willpower to drive 6 hours to northern new jersey, but I'm just going to roh's ppv taping the 16th.

sounds interesting. The last topic I would think Aronofsky would take on, but I'll reserve judgement.

I'm an Aronofsky fan so I'll check this out for sure. I don't know how I feel about a movie about professional wrestling though.

M...movies are fake?!
They're still real to me, dammit!

Seriously though, I love Aronofsky, ROH and wrestling in general...and since I never imagined they would meet up, this will certainly be of interest.

My sister is working on this, Nicholas Cage was set to star at first. Good thing they replaced him.

Gotta love the "extras" in that movie.

"C'mon, let's get the show on the road!"
"I have to travel, like, 2 and a half hours from here!"

Any idea if Clint Mansell will be scoring the film?

Considering he scored The Fountain, Requiem and Pi, I would assume he'd be attached to this as well. I hope he does, he makes Aronofsky's movies much better.

If i recall from reading, they weren't 'paid extras', that particular show lasted about 5.5 hours, because of alot of retakes (and probably fans fucking it up by yelling and chanting stupid shit), and the fact that they ran a normal wrestling show that night too (and the same for the ones later in the month), and by the looks of it, this was hardcore fed czw in philidelphia, and they're known for being more figity.

Oh and if anyone is interested.
Ring of Honor is giving away several pairs of tickets to both live events next weekend in Dover, NJ in conjunction with the filming of the movie "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke.

To enter, send your name and mailing address to [email protected]. In the subject heading enter which show you would like to win tickets to, either Friday or Saturday. If you can attend both shows enter the words Both Nights in the subject heading and we'll automatically enter you for the two shows.

Winners will be contacted by email no later than Friday, March 7th. Please only enter this contest if you can attend the show(s).

Both DA and Mickey Rourke are going to be in attendence.

found this on the new york post site
November 8, 2007 -- NICOLAS Cage, wrestling fan? The "Ghost Rider" star came to the Ring of Honor show Saturday in the Manhattan Center ballroom with Darren ("Requiem for a Dream") Aronofsky, who's directing him in "The Wrestler." Cage stayed for the entire show and interviewed several of the grapplers who perform for Ring of Honor, described as "an alternative, an antidote to the bull[bleep] on TV." Cage, who will play Randy "The Ram" Robinson in the flick, was wearing "ridiculously pointy shoes," said our spy.

Actually, it's gonna be mostly source music, made up of 80's hits.

Here's a partial list:

Def Leppard’s (Rock Rock), Cinderella (Don’t Know What You Got and Fire and Ice), Great White (Once Bitten Twice Shy), AC/DC (Back in Black, If You Want Blood), Motley Crue (Girls Girls Girls), Def Leppard (Pour Some Sugar On Me), Warrent (Cherry Pie), Guns ‘N Roses (Get In The Ring), Black Crowes (Hard to Handle), Skid Row (I Remember You),

I'm very excited for this movie. It's funny reading the imdb boards and everyone is complaining about how pro wrestling is the backdrop of the movie because it's low-brow entertainment. Like the drug addicts of Requiem for a Dream were high-brow.

I'm definitely interested. I think the last serious movie about pro wrestling was Mad Bull with Alex Karras, and that was around 1978. Surprisingly, it wasn't kayfabe either.

Is this going to be the first commercial art-house film loved by white-trash Americans?

Wrestling, good story/acting, amazing direction - it should be a hit, especially if Aaronofsky uses his usual amazing movie trailers.
