Further Details
Warner Home Video has officially announced Superman Returns which stars Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, and Kevin Spacey. The film will be available to own in single ($28.98) and double-disc ($34.99). The release date has yet to be confirmed I'm afraid, but we'll bring you that shortly. What we are able to confirm is that each disc will carry a 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. As far as we know, the single-disc will be featureless, whereas the two-disc edition will include deleted scenes, along with Requiem for Krypton: Making Superman Returns - a comprehensive 3-hour documentary that takes you behind the scenes onto the set of Superman Returns.

Best Buy exclusive!

Order Superman Returns (2-Disc Special Edition) and receive collectible multipanel packaging, as well as a 64-page excerpted edition of Superman: The Ultimate Guide to the Man of Steel.
The packaging and Ultimate Guide will arrive with the DVD and are available while supplies last.

Don't miss the Best Buy exclusive busts of Superman, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor that can be purchased separately!

Hmmm... so either special packaging plus material from a Superman book (I assume that's what The Ultimate Guide is), or an exclusive cover with a bonus DVD and a lithograph....

Have to look into both offers to be sure, but leaning toward Best Buy right now, though it will cost a little more. The extra DVD at Circuit City might be good, but the Superman vs. Lex Luthor cover sounds kind of cheesy. The litho is the only thing that really tempts me.

The Best Buy artwork is clearly a nice touch. I can imagine a package design similar to that of the Collector's Edition of X-Men: The Last Stand. If so, would definitely be a plus. Competing exclusives, both of which are cool, get difficult.

One week to decide.

I'm leaning more towards the BB exclusive but if it turns out to be more than 25 bucks, I'm gonna go ahead and get the CC one.

Will the Best Buy busts be available to purchase in stores, or just online?

Edit: Nevermind, I see them in Speedy's ad. Thanks Speedy!

Oh man, has anyone read the back of the dvd case for this? I don't know if its the same on the 2 discer, but the single disc back cover has one of the worst synopses I've ever seen in my entire life. I can't believe they let that pass.

After seeing the cover art at Circuit City (in the ad), I now know that I don't care for it. I will be happy to pass on the bonus DVD. The lithograph is still tempting, but the multi panel packaging at Best Buy has the same image. So for me, Best Buy has the better overall deal.

Uh-oh. What's wrong with it? I'm hoping they didn't give away a certain plot point.

I would love it if someone could post detailed pictures of all the deluxe editions (best buy, circuit city, and target). At the moment I am leaning towards best buy though.

They didn't give away plot. But it reads like a rough draft, rather than a finished product. Ugh:

And Lex Luthor has a plan that will destroy millions - no, billions - of lives.

Filmmaker Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2) gives the world the Superman it needs, honoring the legend everyone loves while taking it in a powerful new direction. I also made note of the terrible plot synopsis but on another forum. It's just way too much happy talk. It feels too much like "BUY THIS DVD!" It's far too opinionated and sounds like a blurb from some critic's review of the movie. Compare the above to Batman Begins, which has a much more straight forward synopsis:

Originally Posted by Back of the Batman Begins box:

In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.
Here's a synopsis from the DVD's press release which reads a lot better:

Originally Posted by the DVD press release:

Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Sounds like Warner has brought back the moron who wrote the blurb for the original Matrix DVD:

"Mind-warp stunts. Techno-slammin’ visuals. Mega-kick action. The movie flat-out rocks."
