Re: Stanley Kubrick Collection discussion (Part II)
Noir fan..thats a real pity
I mean am I the only person who thinks a Stanley Kubrick boxset should include..well...all his films?
What about the earlier films before 2001? My dream set would be to have the lot...i mean theres not that many. Could have a seperate box for the fans.."Stanley, the Early Years"
Surely we could russle up the early shorts and features up to Paths of Glory and ...gasp!....Fear and Desire?
A boy can dream I guess

Have fun getting the studios to play nice, then. WB did what they reasonably could. I'm assuming UA/MGM (now Sony? It's all so confusing.) still owns distribution rights to most of those pre-Lolita movies?

I just wonder why the newer box set omitted "Barry Lyndon" and "Lolita," while including the rest of the films from the previous set. I'd like to see someone make some custom covers in the same vein that the rest of the newer ones are in, for those two films.

Since BL and Lolita weren't upgraded (for whatever reason, but they weren't), I figure WB just left them out to keep people from rebuying the same discs and to keep the price down. Maybe? It was really more of a "Here's a boxset of upgrades!" than a career retrospective. Studios release The [insert famous person here] Collections all the time, and they never contain everything--this was just more of the same.

I was just curious if anyone purchased this set at Costco. If so, which version of The Shining cover do they have on their copies? Thanks.

You can easily tell which cover The Shining will have by looking at the spines. If all the spines of the films are uniform (the title in the same font with a colors line), then The Shining has the matching door cover. If not, the Shining will have a spine with the title in its unique font and some red.

Re: Stanley Kubrick Collection discussion (Part II)
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just got this set for Christmas today...
Am I the only person to be really disappointed with the packaging? I've seen photos of the individual covers and discs and they look so much better than the ones included in the box. I like minimalism and all, but I'd rather have actual nice looking covers and discs and not the film 'symbols' and black.

I love the covers, but I thought they'd be better as:
A) SteelBooks
B) Slipcovers, which revealed poster art underneath
Oh well.
