Can you name some of those films, since I'm sure we'd all like to check out what we've been missing. I'm not denying it, I'm really just asking. Thanks.

All of the Jackie Chan and Jet Li films that Dimension/Miramax has released would fall in this catagory. Some have been cut to various degrees and all are only available with a (usually terrible) English dub track, with the original Cantonese audio nowhere to be seen.
Examples:
SUPERCOP (aka Police Story 3)
LEGEND OF DRUNKEN MASTER (aka Drunken Master II)
OPERATION CONDOR (aka Armour of God 2)
OPERATION CONDOR 2 (aka Armour of God 1, confusing, I know )
PROJECT A
THE LEGEND 1 & 2 (aka Fong Sai Yuk 1 & 2)
FIST OF LEGEND
THE MASTER
TWIN WARRIORS (aka Tai-Chi Master)
THE DEFENDER (aka Bodyguard from Bejing)
LEGEND OF THE SWORDSMAN (aka Swordsman II)
There are others, but this gives you an idea. Don't buy the Miramax DVDs of any of these films.

First off, I think Jet Li movies are great; I'm glad to see this movie make good money and be #1 at the box office last week. Having said that, timing is everything. They released this after all the summer blockbusters had found their way to the screens and that helped its cause immensely.....Exit Wounds managed to have a great opening weekend some time back for the very same reason, that being, it's competition was lighter and it had a better chance to make an impact. No slight to either film- I plan on seeing Hero this weekend. What I wish is that some of the studios would look closer at release dates and bring out some of the bigger releases during a time period where competition is lighter .....seems to me there would be far fewer big budget bombs if they did so.

The Hero DVD has not been announced yet, but Amazon has it available for pre-order with a release date of November 30, 2004.

let's hope it's widescreen. The story of Qiu Ju is full frame on the Sony release. I have the Hong Kong dvd and the 1.85:1 widescreen (which is even 16:9 enhanced) is actually widescreen compared to the VHS I had from Sony which I suspected might be open matte full frame.

Hmmm...I've never heard of that site before. It looks more like a rumor than a confirmed release. Has anyone else substantiated this release date?

i have not been able to dig up any more dirt on this as of yet. I will vouch for VideoETA though. They are pretty accurate, most of the time. It should be in the trades next week if this is happening.

If this is true, I'm glad I didn't break down and pick up a used LD or the HK DVD with the awful transfer.
I just hope it gets a good transfer and it's not P&S.

Last weekend I bought a Taiwanese release of this film for less than $10. Decent picture quality, too.

That's awesome!
