i may have to go watch hero today, i don't mind the "chin chung chang bullshit" .
anyway i would mind a dvd release of red lantern. i went to the location where it was shot in china 3 yrs ago so that'll be cool to see the movie again, haven't seen it in ages.

I think all the Region 0 releases are out of print -- more likely now that Miramax has decided to release it here in the states, they can no longer import it....

R0 discs of the film have been available for about a year and a half. Even if your not region free, there's no need to wait for a R1 disc, my friend.

I don't have it yet, so I don't know for sure, but the recently released extended version is supposed to be Region 0:

Miramax stopped US sites from selling the imported discs long ago, but they can't do a damn thing if one orders a copy directly from an HK site (like the one in my link).

It's region 0 but don't get it unless an annoying watermark popping up in the top right of the screen every 2 minutes doesn't bother you.

As for a region 1 release of Raise the Red Latern, it could happen, but keep in mind that despite the success of the American remake of The Ring we only ever got a region 1 release of the original Japanese version and never the two sequels.

The logo is encoded as part of the English subtitles. If the turn the subtitles off, the logo goes away (and so does your English translation, obviously).

It's huge, it's solid red & blue, and it takes up a big chunk of the movie image.

Well I don't know enough about Miramax to be optimistic about a nice dvd of Hero but considering that Tarantino had some influence on this release, I'm only hoping that we get a decent release.
