The PS3 isn't deciding a war. It doesn't stand the chance. For one I've seen it play BDs. The Standalone players do a better job. It didn't impress me at all. It is not as good as the Samsung. I have no reason to lie. Sony doesn't do jack for me. So I don't have to lie to get Sony to pat my head.

He should be around here long enough to know the answer to that.

He was talking about TSD2005. BTW, a few weeks ago he offered a bet to anyone doubting his sources about two studios, LGF and Disney, supporting Hd-dvd by January.
I believe his suggestion was to make it $1K and they would agree to let a neutral AVS member hold the money. No takers yet I guess.

Has he ever said where he works? I don't believe he has. From what I've read, he's definitely one of the more reliable people on there.
One person that I used to talk with hasn't been around for nearly a week now.
I look forward to finding out more on Wednesday at the meeting. Of course, I won't be able to talk about any of it...but I look forward to it nonetheless.

Amir, Robert (who runs VE) and 2 of Toshiba's HD DVD specialists will be there.

Then I must be missing something. If BD fanatics accept the fact the the PS3 will be a the worst BD player, then why are they all claming that it will also be the saviour of the format? Why would people buy movies for a player that looks bad? And why would they then go out and buy a regular player for that format if they were so unimpressed with the PS3 player? It's not like everyone who buys a PS3 will know that there are better BD players out there. Most of those people will just be joe-six-packs who only care about gaming. Why would they then want to invest in a format more expensive than DVD if the difference between the two will hardley be noticable on the PS3? And like someone already posted, most people buying a PS3 won't have great HT setups, so then why would then even go and buy another BD player if it won't look that much different on their HT? I'm confused now as to how the PS3 will save the format like everyone has been saying. Doesn't seem like much of a threat then aside from the fact that you can technically say that "there are a lot of people with BD players in their homes". Or will it be enough to save BD if all those people just bought 1 or 2 films and that's it?

Eric,
With all due respect to spiky, I've never heard of any BD fanatic resigning themselves to the PS3 not being all that hot a BD player. I've heard more than one say that the BD playback on the PS3 will be just as good as any of the stand-alone's.

Regardless, I'll be there for the food, drink, Amir and any hot wife-less HT guys that may show up.
I know no one gave away that Batman info until a while after but, of course, any info that I can share, I will.

We won't know how the PS3 performs as a playback device until it comes out and we actually can touch it. I'm in it for the HDMI v1.3 support. This will be the first player on the market to support it. And as much as this has been beaten into our skulls, the Cell is a very powerful data processor. As such, it should have no problem dealing with playback.

Actually, everything I've heard from BD is that the PS3 will not just be as good as the standalones, but that it will in fact be the best of all the G1 machines. So I think Spiky is confusing what the fanatics say with actual common sense.
