I wanted to save money by purchasing the HD Tivo. This is supposed to be a Hot Deal. Since I don't get my HD channels OTA, the USB dongle for an extra $3 per month kills this as a Hot Deal for me.

You are correct. If you are getting your HD signal OTA, you do not need the USB dongle.

Still, I am not going to spend $698.99 plus $3 per month for an HD TIVO that needs a USB dongle.

The 65 inch 1080P Panasonic would be a better choice IMHO. The impact of a 65 inch screen compared to any minor difference in the Pioneer Elite is very minor.
