It looks like I will pick this up and ebay my Oppo DVD and my 360 add-on. I should come out pretty close to even on it. Might bite on the rumored HD-A2/ Matrix / get 2 free hd-dvds deal at BB.

I thought the same thing at first. Then I factored in the 2 free movies. Since they're about $25 a pop, I figure that brings the price down to $30. I'd pay $25 for The Matrix if it was available by itself. So the way I see it is I'm getting the other two movies for $5 or $2.50 each. That's worth it to me since If I don't pick up The Matrix, I'll get at least 2-3 anyway just so I have something to watch when I get home. If they're as pretty as I've been hearing, I'll pay $2.50 each just to be wowed. They're not the best movies to be sure. But as someone new to HD, there will be a short period where I'll watch any old crap if it's pretty enough.

Now if I already had a good HD DVD collection, I doubt I'd bite. But right now I just want to see what all the fuss is about.

The Bus

The way I see it, I can get rid of my Ultimate Matrix Collection DVDs, which might net me $10 or $20. The two free HD DVDs are $50-$60 and the result is I'm getting Matrix and the movies damn near for free.

While the last movie has no real value, the second one does have some nice action sequences in the middle.

I'm new to the whole HD-DVD thing, but I didn't see this offer mentioned in the Best Buy ad today. Might be a dumb question, but is this a Toshiba thing, so this offer is included in the box and has nothing to do with Best Buy?

I've been on the fence for some time, but I have 2 questions...

1.) I am not really technically knowledgeable about a lot of players. Which would you recommend as the best for a set that only goes to 1080i?

2.) If you wait for the better player (X-A2) in the last week of the sale to get the $100 rebate, does it no longer come with the free movies?

There is no way you should pay the extra $200 for the X-A2 when you have a 1080i display. I have a 65 inch 1080i display, and the HD A2 is perfect for my display. The free movie offer will probably be the same then as it is now. The best deal around is probably Value Electronics, if you go through AVS.
