Who Is Anika Nilles, the New Drummer for Rush's Reunion Tour?

This was out of nowhere. I got an email from Live Nation with the word RUSH in the subject line. I thought they were peddling come event in the next week or two like they regularly do. Shock to see it was about Rush.

I missed the link about the new drummer the 1st time I saw this post but went and looked her up. Also, an additional keyboard player for some parts? Wow, I know RUSH fans are generally cool so I hope both Anika and the Keyboard player are accepted as the bands endorsed members for the tour. No one wants to hear the lame whining about how neither are Neil or Geddy for the duration of the tour.

On the Steve Hoffman forums, a bunch of gatekeepers are clutching their pearls because Geddy and Alex are using the "Rush" name on the tour, how dare they!

Awesome news. I heard that Taylor Swift announced eight more versions of her new album in celebration of the return of Rush.

But it's cool that they'll be touring. I hear they're great live. I'm not a fan of theirs, but still might check out the show, maybe.

Neil is irreplaceable, but it looks like the sticks are in good hands.

My wife and two of her sisters are huge Rush fans.

Dude has never been to a RUSH show because there are lots of women.

I've seen RUSH several times but missed their Farewell tour. I may have to break my concert diet to go to this show.

I only saw the Hemispheres tour, which was fantastic, but I really wish I'd also seen the Moving Pictures tour. After that, I'm good. Not that I didn't like anything they did, but there were far fewer songs I really enjoyed. Where's My Thing is the last track I remember being excited about, when it came out.

Having said that, I'm really happy they're touring again. I won't see it, but I'm happy for them to feel they can do it, and for the fans that I'm sure will enjoy it.

I came here to post that video. Contains a lot of "Rush" sounds. Her playing is so fluid and that hi-hat work is so clean. I cannot wait for this, not matter the cost (Rush is the only band where I have no budget).

She sounds great... no one can replace Neil but it sounds like Geddy and Alex found someone worthy to fill in.

Texted my friend to see if he was going to get tickets. He said no. It's not the same without Neil. We're both drummers and I get that. But I said to him, I'm viewing this as a tribute concert. The same as Chris Cornell and Taylor Hawkins. And for me, it's getting together with a lot of other Rush fans to celebrate him and the band and to say goodbye properly. Anika isn't replacing Neil (at least I hope there's no continuing. As Geddy said, he didn't want Rush 2.0.)

He's been to more shows than I and said he may change his mind as the concert nears. Also, he said Gump may drum tech for Anika (Lorne "Gump" Wheaton was Neil's tech for over 10 years) and he has a friendship with him.

I've been to Subdivisions, GUP, HYF, RTB, R30, S&A, and the last show of the R40 tour.



So I'll likely get tickets for the first show at the Forum. Part of me also wants to see them in Toronto.

Seen Rush probably a dozen times over the years. And I was thrilled when I saw this yesterday. Count me in !

I've held the same opinion on a few different occasions and ended up missing out on the final tours of some great bands. The last one that caused me to rethink that opinion was Black Sabbath's final run.

A buddy of mine posted this today. 😂🤣😂 I guess the "fans" are having a fit?

You'd think that the fact they picked a hot chick to replace Peart would soften the blow...

Wonder how folks would react if they had gone with someone like Portnoy.

I just hope those dorks boycott the shows so it’s easier for the rest of us to get tickets.
