Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

This kind of blew my mind. Can you imagine the tabloid fodder for a Britney-Justin baby?

https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/17/enter...ars/index.html

During her relationship with Justin Timberlake, Spears became pregnant by the singer and had an abortion, she writes in a book excerpt published by People.
[...]
“If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” she writes. “And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

I was thinking of getting her audiobook but she doesn't narrate the entire book:

"I am so grateful to the amazing Michelle Williams for reading the rest of it,” Spears admitted upon sharing the news of Williams’ involvement.
Michelle's a good choice but not sure how much is read by her.

Re: Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

So, did anyone actually read or listen to this trainwreck of a book?

I recently found out that Spotify has audiobooks available, so I have been listening to some various biographies and this one popped up as popular and had a good rating. What the hell, I said since it is relatively short.

Just an FYI, Michelle Williams reads the entirety of the book and does an excellent job with what she has to work with. Other than an introduction, Spears is mercifully absent. I don't think I could have listened to it if she had actually read the book.

Now as you can probably tell, I am no fan of BS. Her music does nothing for me, and I feel she has a truly terrible singing voice. So why listen? I guess I was interested in hearing the details of her Conservatorship and well as her interaction with other various celebrities in addition to her whacked out Instagram profile that seems to pop up in the news so often.

Man, this book is awful. Was there not an editor or ghostwriter to assist in this? It reads entirely like a 10-year-old girl's diary (well, at least what I assume a 10-year-old girl's diary would sound like...the only one I read of Diary Of Anne Frank and well, not gonna criticize that one. ). Anyway, this womanchild has serious issues. And "womanchild" is the perfect term for her. She almost comes across as a Michael Jackson type that just never matured.

I was just taken aback after reading this due to all the critical acclaim I saw when this book was released. It almost reads as a comedy at times, and it was hard to not laugh at so many things that she wrote about (that were not meant to be funny). And you will die if you take a shot every time she calls her kids "babies."

Was just curious if anyone else her suffered through this. I know I am not the main audience for this book but sheesh...get some professional help if you are going to publish a memoir.

She is just one of many in a long line of child / teenage "celebrities" who have been thrust into the spotlight and put up on a pedestal to be idolized by the public and exploited by the entertainment industry, only to be kicked to the curb when they've outgrown their cuteness/usefulness in order to make way for the next big thing that comes along to take their place. I imagine it can really fuck a person up. The few who don't fall victim to this game are usually the ones who have a strong support system, with parents who help keep them grounded so as not to be taken advantage of. I haven't read her book but it seems to me she didn't have this at all. Never been a fan of hers but I do feel somewhat sorry for her.

Her parents probably weren't too involved because her singing career
started just before she turned 18.

Anyway, Spear's lifestyle didn't turn south until after marrying K-Fed in 2004...

Re: Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

There is certainly a lot to envy about people like Britney and Taylor Swift, who decide what they want to do with their lives when they are children, and then are so driven to pursue that goal. But then at the same time, it is certainly psychologically aberrant, and so you have to wonder about how it can fuck them up as adults.

It's difficult enough for a grown person with a fully formed personality to handle global fame and adulation. Growing up in that crucible while going through puberty and changing emotional states is nigh impossible to navigate for ordinary mortals without a lot of mental baggage and often damaging development. So many child stars who grow up before our very eyes fall apart unless they have a strong support system around them.

Britney Spears Sells Music Catalog, Other Rights to Primary Wave
By Jem Aswad

Britney Spears has sold her song catalog and an unclear number of other rights to Primary Wave, two sources confirm to Variety. Reps for both Spears and Primary Wave declined Variety‘s requests for comment; the news was first reported by TMZ.

Details were unclear —and likely under iron-clad non-disclosure agreements — but TMZ estimated the deal to be in the low nine figures.

It seems safe to assume that Spears’ artist royalties and publishing rights were included in the deal. The TMZ report, which is based on legal documents the publication says it has viewed, states that she sold “her ownership share of her catalog” to Primary Wave; it notes that the price was not included in the legal documents.

Sony Music owns and controls the rights to Spears’ entire recorded music catalog, so it seems likely she sold the rights to her artist royalties. She has songwriting credits on nearly 40 of the songs in her catalog, although few of them were major hits apart from the ballad “Everytime” and fan favorites like “Me Against the Music,” “S&M,” “Work Bitch!” and others. It seems extremely unlikely that Spears’ NIL rights (name and likeness) were included in the deal, unless it was for exponentially more than the price TMZ speculates.

There are any number of options for exploitation of the catalog, including the forthcoming biopic based on her memoir “The Woman in Me,” which landed at Universal Pictures in 2024. A jukebox musical based on her hits, “Once Upon a One More Time,” premiered on Broadway in 2023.

Spears has not released an album since 2016’s “Glory” and has not performed in concert since October of 2018, closing out her “Piece of Me” tour with a final show at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. She had been scheduled to return to Las Vegas in 2019 for a second residency, “Domination,” following the success of her first residency, “Britney Spears: Piece of Me,” which concluded in 2017. However, she ultimately postponed the “Domination” show and stepped away from performing indefinitely.

Re: Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

I read her autobiography. I have zero doubt that her songwriting credits are "Elvis Presley" writing credits.

But good for her.

Not surprising. I follow a reddit that posts her videos she does and they are becoming increasingly erratic. She appears to have a serious mental health and drug issue and needs some help.

Maybe this will help her get it.

The free Brittany movement might have gotten it wrong. I don't care about all the other weird stuff she was doing but DUI endangers other people.

Yeah no tolerance for DUIs from people who arent coming off of signing a low 9 figure deal on their song rights let alone ones who are. Hire the most ridiculous humvee limo detail imaginable.

Re: Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

She is more known for being a mess than her music not that she was putting out Bob Dylan masterpieces in her career either.

Bob Dylan is known more these days for his embarrassing TV commercials than his music.

Re: Britney Spears - Discussion Thread

She could be facing prison time for pills found during her arrest, per TMZ. That involves a lot of speculation on their part though.
