Not really much this time. I normally go fir every doors release, but im not the 3 inch gimmick.

Macho Man and Elvis are probably the ones i try to get as of now.

Definitely going to pick up ODB. Need to research what a few like The Ramones album are.

I'd go for a couple live albums, such as the one from Midlake, if I bought vinyl. You can sort the list by format and there are something like only 4 CDs.

Unfortunately, it's from the Right Here Right Now tour. I saw them on that tour, and it was the first and only time I saw Van Halen live. By that time the band was well past their prime, and it showed in a wholly unremarkable, lifeless performance. (From what I understand, quite a bit of this album was re-recorded in the studio.)

It's a crying shame that Van Halen didn't release a double live album from the "1984" tour. Could have a classic like Maiden's "Live After Death," Judas Priest's "Priest...Live," Ozzy's "Tribute," and the Scorpions' "World Wide Live."

I had a boss that used to play Crispin Glovers’ albums loudly and regularly at work. If I can get it for $20 or so will probably pick it up for sentimentality.

Couple of records I want, but nothing worth getting up early and/or waiting on line for. It'll definitely be a case of seeing what's left after the morning rush.

I wouldn't mind the reissue of Enslaved's debut EP and the Sisters of Mercy Reptile House EP, that's about it for me.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

Even the records that interest me don't really do a lot. Like, there's a live Selecter album. Great, I love The Selecter. Except, we just got a live RSD release from them 2 years ago. This is not a band like the Rolling Stones, where their sound changed from decade to decade. For F's sake they only released 2 studio albums in their entire career. I can't imagine this live album will be any different from the other.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

Stuff of interest...

AGNOSTIC FRONT - "UNITED BLOOD (THE EXTENDED SESSIONS)" (LP)
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...50900ced2d.jpg
Early NYHC. Definitely of interest to me.

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB - "LIVE AT LEVIATHAN" (LP)
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...b37a646ba7.jpg
Decent enough 21st century hard rawk outfit. Low priority for me, but worth a look.

ERIC CARR - "ROCKOLOGY" (2x LP)
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...4dcc18bc8c.jpg
Looks like a good fit for my modest KISS collection of vinyl.

DIO - "LIVE IN FRESNO '83" (2x LP)
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...59e5804257.jpg
Old Dio concert. Of interest, but I'll need to give it a listen before I buy.

THE DONNAS - "EARLY SINGLES 1995-1999" (LP)
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...60b0f77ff7.jpg
Always liked The Donnas more than I probably should, but their cover of "Wig Wam Bam" here makes it worth a purchase.

FRATERNITY - "SECOND CHANCE" (2x LP)
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...bd788196ae.jpg
Limited to 800 copies, this will probably be impossible to find, but pre-AC/DC Bon Scott would be a worthwhile addition to my collection.

GENERATION X - "GENERATION X" (LP)
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...db7e3a1718.jpg
Billy Idol's punk days before he was Billy Idol. Strong maybe here.

MOTLEY CRUE - "HELTER SKELTER" (Picture Disc)
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...7637a106a1.jpg
Only into picture discs as collectibles. Low priority, but might interesting to own.

SHADOWS FALL - "WAR WITHIN" (LP)
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...0a0d8ec86d.jpg
Enjoyable enough 21st century metal album. Might upgrade my CD, but it's another low priority offering.

THE SWORD - "GODS OF THE EARTH" (LP)
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...4e61e37a35.jpg
I've been picking The Sword's RSD releases, so I'll grab this one, too.

UFO - "WILL THE LAST MAN STANDING (TURN OUT THE LIGHT)" (2x LP)
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...35ed806488.jpg
Not my favorite band by any stretch, but they are historically important. Only have two UFO albums ("Phenomena" and "Lights Out"), so I might pick this up.

Some interesting things this time around, but lots of double albums. What I pick up will depend a lot of how much these things are. I'm going to balk if lots of these things are in the $50 range.

Paff 02-22-23 11:18 AM

Re: Record Store Day 2023

^ I don't like The Donnas very much, but yeah, any record with a version of Wig Wam Bam goes on the short list.

RSD related, I just ordered The Alternate Tusk by Fleetwood Mac off of Discogs, thus completing my collection. I'd hoped that the recent box set release of these records would ease the prices on the individual records, and apparently it has; Tusk had been going for $85 and above, started dropping into the $70s, and I'd said I was holding out till it got below $50. This copy was $44, and considering it was $39 if you bought it when it came out, that's not an insane markup.

Heh.

If this is what I think it is, I had this picture disc back in the day. It was suppose to have some original "Leathur" mixes of "Live Wire" and "Piece Of Your Action", but at the time I didn't notice anything different.

It turns out the first copy of "Too Fast For Love" I had, might have had the original "Leathur" mix. Allegedly it was released in canada with the leathur mix. So I might very well have been listening to the "Leathur mix" all along, and didn't recognize any difference at first.

Years later when I first picked up the "Too Fast For Love" cd, I thought it sounded "odd" and different such as "Merry Go Round". The original Leathur mix of "Merry Go Round" had the non-distorted guitar intro up front in the mix, while the later "official mix" had the non-distorted guitar intro buried in the mix.

- Leathur mix of "Merry Go Round"

- official mix of "Merry Go Round"

cultshock 02-23-23 09:51 AM

Re: Record Store Day 2023

The Leathur mix of Live Wire is quite different as well. If the original masters are "lost", I really wish they'd find them and reissue the Leathur mix of the album (the one included in the box set from awhile back was just a needle drop).

The Canada Elektra LP has an interesting backstory. The Crue were embarking on their first Canadian tour and Elektra wanted to get an album out prior to this and the only mix available was the Leathur one. The album was quickly slapped together and I doubt many were pressed (pretty sure it was also released on cassette) and subsequent reissues used the official remix.

I have an original Leathur press and always preferred it to the Elektra remix.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

I'd love to get a copy of that first Canadian pressing. Looks like it came out a month or two before Elektra's first US version, and even includes "Stick to Your Guns", according to Discogs.

That Eric Carr KISS release is pretty cool. Wonder what the unreleased bonus Demo tracks are?

I am so glad I despise vinyl, or I would be one broke motherfucker.

As far as "Wig Wam Bam" goes, One, it was the early 1970s and everyone was high as fuck. Different time. Two, the song was sort of mash-up of Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha and "Running Bear," an old pop song from the 1950s that they were probably familiar with when they were kids.

Picked up Eric Dolphy: Musical Prophet - The Expanded 1963 New York Studio Sessions and The Cure: Show (picture disc) at one of our local record stores today. Did anyone else arrive a couple of hours early to get a good spot in line? Glad I did ...

I paid scalper prices for the Van Halen set. Hoping the Soul Asylum album will drop a little before I pick that one up. There’s a couple others that I’d like to have but they’re not RSD exclusives so I’ll just wait for a release if I can’t pick them up once stores post their remaining inventory tomorrow.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

My youngest brother picked up the Our Lady Peace, Jason Isbell /Amanda Shires along with another Amanda Shires releases. He had the Scott Weiland release but put it back once he found Jason Isbell. He said he was around 50th in line this morning. I believe they had the Van Halen set at the store he went to as he texted me the price while he was looking around.

I believe a bunch of the people in front of him where there for the Taylor Swift and Grateful Dead releases.

Toby Dramit 04-22-23 08:39 PM

Re: Record Store Day 2023

Yeah, I was fourth in line and two of the people ahead of me (and quite a few of the others behind us) were there for Taylor Swift. The guy right behind me was a KISS fan who was there for the Eric Carr release, only to find out that the store wasn't carrying it. Felt bad for him. I got the only copy they had of The Cure so I was happy about that. Picked up a vintage copy of Eric Dolphy: Copenhagen Concert in addition to Musical Prophet so it was a pretty good morning for me.

John Galt 04-22-23 08:43 PM

Re: Record Store Day 2023

Do you know how much the Isbell album was? I had that on my list but was expecting a four song album to be <$20. It’s going for $60+ on eBay which seems a little nuts for that release.

Mike86 04-22-23 08:43 PM

Re: Record Store Day 2023

I would have been interested in the Pearl Jam release and maybe the Taylor Swift release for my fiancée.

Locally there’s a place that sells a pretty good selection of records but they’re not just a record store so they don’t participate in Record Store Day as far as getting the exclusives.

Pretty sure Pearl Jam has released some of their exclusives later on anyways so maybe I’ll wait it out. If not whatever I guess.

According to the picture my brother texted me, the sticker says $18

Did my usual, showed up a few hours after doors open (and still waited almost an hour to get into the store, what's up with that?), and got the ones from the top of my list: The Selecter*, Ramones, and Rich Kids. Didn't find The Donnas, Gen X, or Violent Femmes, but I'm not too upset about that. Might check some stores tomorrow for remnants, 'cuz sometimes they'll surprise you.

* - Yes, I know I originally showed disinterest in the live Selecter record, but this concert was recorded after their second and final record Celebrate the Bullet. A record which has grown on me recently. Most of the songs of this concert come from that record, so I was more interested than when it was first announced.

That sounds right. I just didn’t expect the secondary markup to be as much as it was. I don’t mind paying others to go out and wait in line so I don’t have to, but $60 for four songs is nuts. Going to try for a few more albums this morning as stores release their remaining inventory online.

$135 plus tax and shipping came out to around $150.

No luck online this morning. Got my cart filled with all but one title I wanted at Bullmoose but by the time I went to checkout everything was out of stock. By the time I tried other websites, they were out of everything too.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

I started to check out the record store by brother went to yesterday while I was out. But I was afraid of actually finding something I might want so I skipped it.

Plus the store he went to has 4 of the recently released Type O Negative albums and my daughter would have drove me nuts to buy at least one of them.

By the way, the store I'm talking about is called Main St Records in Burlington John if you're ever in the area. Never been there myself as I don't usually buy a lot of vinyl, although I have picked up quite a few from Target clearance or B2G1 sales over the last couple of years.

The Ramones is one I may end up getting. I wanted to see the reviews before buying but what I've read thus far has been quite positive.

Re: Record Store Day 2023

I think I ended up getting all but one title that was on my initial list. I might be getting an extra Soul Asylum since I didn’t have much faith in the inventory levels of the first purchase. There was a Reddit thread yesterday where people would post links to stores with inventory of certain titles. After going through a bunch of shops all over the country, I finally found the titles I wanted.

Kip Moore is the one I haven’t been able to locate. I wasn’t expecting a lot of demand for that, but it’s such low supply that I haven’t found it anywhere….it’s not even on eBay right now.

And after reading other purchases and looking a little more deeply at the titles, Ive added the Pearl Jam and Poe titles to my want list, but obviously nowhere to be found at this point.
