My brother is also going to that one, but with his wife instead. She's originally from Chicago.
As I mentioned yesterday, my brother and I are going to the SoFi in Inglewood, Ca.

I got tickets for the Detroit show next November. $515 for 2 tix... and those were mid-level type seats. I usually splurge when it comes to concerts but tickets were well over $550 each or first level; not including fees.

I'd rather hear it in the context of the album, with the rest of the songs and their placement possibly enhancing my enjoyment of this one. I've got plenty to hold me over until then, and it's releasing early enough before the concerts to become familiar with it.

It's exceptionally rare I listen to a teaser or single release prior to getting the album. FWIW, I'm in the same boat with movies, although I will watch the first trailer released without sound.

Their last album that had a decent cover was AJFA.

Yikes!

Might consider getting the Walmart exclusive LP; the yellow swirled vinyl matches the artwork, but I'm still kind of sketchy on how colored/swirled/two-tone vinyl sounds vs plain black vinyl.

I had tickets in my basket for the Chicago dates last week. Then figured it's two years away. I could be dead by then.

Plus there will be a shitload of tickets available when the dates get closer. Plenty of people whose plans will change between now and then. I'll grab some just before the gigs. I've seen Metallica probably 20 times in the 80's (although not since 1991), so if I don't go it's not like I'm missing them at their best.

I did the same, couldn't pull trigger; almost 2 year away is too far, sure, I could be dead by then, or perhaps even Hetfield, then I'll be stuck with a $700 ticket to see a Metallica with Chad Kroeger on vocals.

Agreed, every cover after Justice has been shitty, including this new one, wow. Sad to see that from a band that had great album covers at the beginning of their career (my favorite Metallica cover is the Creeping Death 12" single).

I've had mixed results with colored, swirled, etc. vinyl, I try to get plain black for albums if I can.

One thing I like about the new album cover is that they only use the "M" of the Metallica logo. Never was a fan of that logo (of course that didn't stop me from drawing it on my notebook back in the day).

I’m doing an all songs in a row playlist right now. While I love the Black album. Load and Reload, I’ve always loved. And, one of my fav songs, Whiskey in a Jar is from Garage, Inc. pretty decent as well. I’ll never forget seeing them live, first with GnR and live at Yankee Stadium at Mariano Rivers’s last game there. Set up in the outfield playing the sublime Enter Sandman.

FROM 2 YEARS AGO

SAN RAFAEL, CA, UNITED STATES

THE ALL WITHIN MY HANDS HELPING HANDS CONCERT & AUCTION STREAMING EVENT / NOVEMBER 14, 2020

SETLIST

ACOUSTIC SET
ELECTRIC SET

SHOW NOTES

This was the second time Metallica hosted the “Helping Hands Concert & Auction” benefitting their foundation All Within My Hands. Obviously, due to the pandemic, this became an online affair with tens of thousands of fans watching around the globe.

This was the first time the “COVID” version of “Blackened” was performed live.

This was also the first time that new, acoustic arrangements of “Creeping Death” and “Now That We’re Dead” were played.

“When a Blind Man Cries” and “Turn the Page” were both last performed at the previous Helping Hands concert on November 3, 2018 at the Masonic in San Francisco.

Avi Vinocur from Goodnight, Texas provided additional background vocals and played mandolin while Henry Salvia played keyboards.

Layne Ulrich & Castor Hetfield added some additional percussion to “All Within My Hands.”

This was the first time that an electric version of the acoustic interpretation of “Disposable Heroes” was performed… how’s that for penetrating the fourth wall?

This was the first time Metallica performed “House of the Rising Sun.”

This was the first time that “Wasting My Hate” was played in nine years. It was last played on December 7, 2011 at The Fillmore in San Francisco. This was only the third performance of the song in the last 23 years.

This was the third Helping Hands Concert & Auction benefiting All Within My Hands and their efforts supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.

Metallica kicked off their performance with a five-song acoustic set.

As with previous acoustic performances, Avi Vinocur from Goodnight, Texas provided additional instrumentation & background vocals alongside the band.

The 2020 acoustic arrangement for “Blackened” was performed for the first time in front of a live audience. It was previously played during the last Helping Hands Concert & Auction, which was streamed live from HQ during the pandemic.

This was the first time that Metallica performed a cover of Thin Lizzy’s “Borderline.”

This was also the first time that Metallica performed a cover of UFO’s “It’s Killing Me.”

The nine-song electric set began with a monstrous performance of “The Call of Ktulu.”

The acoustic deconstruction of St. Anger’s “All Within My Hands” went through another metamorphosis, with the acoustic arrangement now being performed electric.

This was the debut live performance of “Lux Ęterna.”

St. Vincent, who contributed a cover of “Sad But True” to The Metallica Blacklist, joined the band on “Nothing Else Matters.”

Metallica performed 12 songs off of seven albums and two non-album tracks: Kill ‘Em All (1), Ride the Lightning (2), …And Justice for All (2), Metallica (4), Garage Inc. (1), St. Anger (1), 72 Seasons (1), Non-Album Tracks (2)

Not feeling the new song. Has Lars had a good drum sound since Reload? The drumming on the two released songs sound like they are a computer program.

Great fucking song! Love it!!

SCREAMING SUICIDE

WRITTEN BY JAMES HETFIELD, LARS ULRICH & ROBERT TRUJILLO

Welcome to this life
Born into the fight
Here to claim your dream
Look you in the eye
Patch the broken sky
Craving dopamine
Then my voice appears
Teaching you of fears
Are you good enough?
You don’t recognize
Head is full of lies
You should just give up

Listen well, better listen well
Listen well, better listen well

Don’t ever speak my name
Remember you’re to blame
Keep me inside
Keep me inside
My name is suicide

Curse another day
Spirit locked away
Punish and deprive
Hate to be awake
Living a mistake
More dead than alive
Then a voice appears
Whisper in your ears
“You are good enough”
Throwing down a rope
A lifeline of hope
Never give you up

Listen well, better listen well
Listen well, better listen well

Don’t ever speak my name
Remember you’re to blame
Keep me inside
Keep me inside
My name is suicide

Terrified in sleepless nights
Caught in spotlight dead to rights
Isolate and fight your mind
Telling you you’re left behind

My lying voice inside
Keeps drinking cyanide
And no more can you run
Into the sun

Terrified, sleepless nights
Caught in spotlight dead to rights
Isolate and fight your mind
Telling you you’re left behind

And now you speak my name
You’ve given back the blame
Keep me deep inside
Don’t you keep me inside
Screaming suicide

Now that I’m exposed inside
Shined a light on cyanide
I’m no longer needed here
Now you've faced your biggest fear
