Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Mark Lanegan - Phantom Radio
Jack White - Fear Of The Dawn (five times and counting)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Unlimited Love

New RHCP was a bit of a slow burn for me, but I started digging it and broke down and grabbed the vinyl yesterday. It sounds phenomenal.

Oh, and I just ordered Pearl Jam - No Code on clear vinyl from 10Club.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

There are only three or four bands/musicians whose albums I will buy almost without consideration, so I hardly buy anything anymore. At most one album a year. But I bought this a few weeks ago. I'm saving my first listening for the lakehouse.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Two of my favorite bands have put out albums so far this year, and it sure seems like there's plenty more to come.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

The Beatles - Let It Be 1987 version.
I am slowly creating a collection of older Beatles releases plus Beatles "alternates" albums.

Besides Let It Be...Naked and Let It Be Revisited (by Mojo magazine), does anyone know of any other tribute style versions of Beatles albums?

I also have Working Class Hero, a tribute to John Lennon

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Took the family to New York earlier this month and realized I hadn't listened to Lou Reed New York in awhile. Picked up the deluxe edition. Great listen.

Garage sale for a buck. That makes six copies of The Four Seasons. Looks like the book is autographed too.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Was at a record show over the weekend and saw this:

Alternate takes of the classic Walk Among Us album.

But I didn't properly research it. I thought it was some kind of rarity so I plunked down the $35 the guy wanted, only to find it's available from the distributor for just $25.99. But with shipping and tax, it probably would have gotten close to $35 anyway, and this private collector dude gets the money instead so it's not too bad in the end.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Yeah, I've seen that available on Amazon. Do you know if the alternate takes were previously released on things like the Misfits coffin box set, or if these are newly discovered takes? If the latter, I may need to pick this up.

sorry, I'm not enough of a Misfits fan to know where all the songs are and when they were released. The only thing I know is that the only songs I like by the band are on Walk. I think you could take the rest of the output of the band and compile the few good songs onto one LP. Maybe just an EP. But Walk Among Us is a banger from beginning to end.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

No worries, I guess I can stop being lazy and do some research myself about that. That's a great album, but I honestly love almost every Misfits song.

This is the "original'" version of WAU that the Misfits were going to release before they signed a one off record deal with Ruby Records. This version has always been referred to as the "Plan 9" version.

American Nightmare was recorded during these sessions and was intended to be the album closer. When the Misfits signed with Ruby Records, they re-recorded the album and Danzig wrote Braineaters to close out the official album. Danzig then released American Nightmare on the compilation Legacy of Brutality.

The first five songs on the "Plan 9" version have only been released on bootlegs. The rest of the material was released on either Collection I, Collection II, or the 3rd disc of the coffin set.

I haven't heard the vinyl bootleg. How does it sound?

Good but not great. Doesn't have the same fidelity as actual Walk Among Us, but it's better than most "bootleg" releases out there. There's some audible tape wow on I Turned Into a Martian (scientifically proven to be the best Misfits song). I kinda liked this version of Vampira better though.

I'd think if you were a hardcore Misfits fan, this would be a no-brainer. I mean, I'm a casual fan, and I'm glad I got it.

Spoiler:
I finally devoured this last night. Apart from a couple of dud tracks, it's an absolutely brill return to '80s synth-pop.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I should pick this up while it's still available. Too bad they didn't keep "American Nightmare" as the closing track, I've always found "Braineaters" to be the weakest track on the officially released version of WAU, "American Nightmare" is a much better song. I still have an early vinyl pressing of Legacy of Brutality (bought it back in 1987), it's a great compilation.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

Not an album but found a different version of the CD single of R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts.

There only a couple numbers apart in catalog #s but the other three tracks are different from the one I already had. Found it at Half Price Books.

This one has Mandolin Strum, Belong (live) and Orange Crush (live).

Used copy of The Beatles Red album (62-66).
I found a gift card from Christmas so I've been buying some stuff that's been sitting on my wishlist for a while.

Re: Albums Bought (2022)

I picked up the recent vinyl reissues of Black Sabbath S/T and Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits. I still have my original vinyl of these that I bought when I was a teenager but they have tons of surface noise, I guess 1980's Warner vinyl might not be that great, so I'm happy to upgrade.
