And the other funny thing about that is that if a club advertised that they had "bare naked ladies", I'd be running in the opposite direction 'cuz you know at places like that the drinks are expensive as all hell.

Either the drinks are expensive, or the ladies are scary looking.

Ha, I'm not really a fan, but that's a funny cover. Back in the early-'90s, we had a pious mayor clutched her pearls when it was announced that the BLs were to perform at the New Year's bash at city hall.

Revolting Cocks
Butthole Surfers

Ewww.

I seem to remember someone in my high school getting in trouble for wearing a Butthole Surfers shirt to school.

Re: Bands with names you dislike

The ads and "coming soon" writeups in the Atlanta paper for Lollapalooza '91 had them listed as the "BH Surfers".

Though I love Christian Death, the name does kinda bother me. My recovering-Catholic wife has never really said anything about them (though I admittedly haven't listened to them much around her).

Circle Jerks. Been a big fan for decades but let's just say I was glad I didn't have any posters up when my son was 8 or 10 or 12.

I like the band but I'm pretty sure the name Elvis Hitler prevented them from getting even medium big.

Many of Foetus's iterations. Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel, You've Got Foetus on Your Breathm etc, I have them all listed as 'Foetus' in my music library.

(There used to be a pizza place near my parents called That Pizza Place. So, yeah, "let's go to that pizza place for dinner" was a common sentence and everyone knew what you were talking about. Huh - per Google, there's at least a dozen of these around)

I thought "The Payola$" was a clever name in reference to a record label paying a radio station under-the-table to promote their music.

But man, they had brilliantly insane album titles like Locust Abortion Technician and Hairway to Steven.

I always wondered what a butthole surfer was.

Is it, like, surfers who are buttholes (ie, people who surf that happen to be unpleasant people) or is "butthole surfing" some kind of activity I'm unaware of?

I think we all know damn good and well what kind of activity butthole surfing probably is.

Is that how search engines work?

Saw a recommendation for an artist/band called Dew. That's a fun one to search for.

Young the Giant. When I first heard their name on radio, I was like 'Young Vagina'?

Re: Bands with names you dislike

On the flip side of this, I do have to give credit to a band I auditioned for over the weekend; their name is a Spanish word that I hadn't heard before. When I asked the singer what it meant, he replied "Nothing. I made it up. It only sounds Spanish. But our band is the only thing that comes up when you Google that word".

I remember a co-worker seeing me wearing a Circle Jerks T-shirt, and rode me for it, saying stuff like "What are you doing this weekend, Paff? Gonna go see that band you like, what were they called the Rectangular R______s?" (Not sure if the "R" word gets censored here, not gonna even try to find out).

I think his head would have exploded had I explained to him what the term "circle jerk" really meant. It was sort of like when the South Park kids got a new teacher, Miss Choksondik and decided to call her "Miss Makesmesick" instead.

I have a feeling it relates to being developmentally disabled.
