Apparently died after a 17 year battle with brain cancer.
RIP
I enjoyed them back in the day. Must have been love was a favorite. It was a big song in the recent movie Long Shot.

A high school friend was completely obsessed with Roxette, and with Marie in particular, so I was exposed to much of their early discography as a result. They put out some catchy tunes, although the more melancholy "Spending My Time" is probably my favorite.
She was no Juice Wrld, though.

They've been interspersing Roxette songs all morning long on our local NPR alternative music station, 89.3 The Current. Forgot how many great songs they had!

I think Roxette is the No.2 band from Sweden in all-time record sales.
Abba is No. 1 and Ace of Base is No.3.

Roxette remains immensely underrated. Such a shame that they peaked in the U.S. in 1991 with Joyride and then faded into obscurity here. From what I understand, while Joyride was a huge hit, their record company switched leadership and wanted to focus on grunge, leaving Roxette mostly in the dust. Their follow-up album Crash Boom Bang was released cheaply at McDonald's (of all places) before hitting record stores, which turned a lot of record stores against their label. They continued to consistently release records in other countries all the way up until 2016 (Good Karma). I know that in several of their final concerts, Marie sat in a chair for the entire show, but was still able to sing quite strongly. Per Gessle (the male half of the group) is a prolific songwriter and has an undeniable knack for penning hooks.
I'm obviously a big fan. Have loved them since their 1988 Look Sharp began hitting the airwaves. This news makes me really sad.

I think you're right. The amazing thing is that Roxette had four U.S. #1 singles; ABBA only ever had one ("Dancing Queen").

Agreed. I have all of their albums on CD. I can't say any single one of them is excellent end to end (although Joyride comes close), but without fail every one of their albums always featured at least a handful of pop gems.

I listened to the Joyride cassette so much back in the day that I can recall from memory there was a typo in the song listing (Small Tlak).

See right there? She was way better than Juice Box Wrld. Little know story he got his name based on the idea from that typo. Sad news indeed. Such a shitty disease. My heart goes out to her family and the other guy I never heard of before today as I'm 49...

"Joyride" was such a great pop album. Just one of it's greatest tracks

Sad news when I heard this. Was a huge Roxette fan of their early stuff when I was a kid (and still am). Have heard some of their recent stuff but not enough of it -- will check out more of it.

Roxette live. Per Gessle doesn't sound all that hot here, but Fredrikkson just shines. She had such look (no pun) and presence. And was a really underrated singer and talent. I don't know why, but her death has really stayed with me these past few days. I was a fan of Roxette, but not obsessed.

Roxette was the first concert I ever attended at George Mason University's Patriot Center. I have all their albums and I think the ones that are really shine the most are Joyride, Crash! Boom! Bang!, Tourism, and Have a Nice Day. While Marie's voice was always the draw I think, Per's writing and oddball voice was strangely charming. This one definitely hits hard since I've followed them for as long as I've been into music.

Recently re-discovered their music after watching Pretty Woman. It Must Have Been Love was played in that and I had forgotten how much good music they had.
Very sad she is gone. RIP
