I don't know if this is apropos, but I just read that when Martha Coolidge was making Valley Girl, she heard Modern English's I Melt With You on the radio and thought it was perfect for the film. However, the radio station did not announce the songs played, so she had to call the station and sing it over the phone just to find out who it was.
