The Iconic Soundgarden singer has Fell On Black Days:( |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
It was the lead story on the news on Fox2 Detroit at 430am this morning.
Soundgarden possibly in my top ten bands of all time. I would call them borderline RocknRoll HOFers. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Wow. And I was just singing "Hunger Strike" to myself when I was making a midnight snack earlier.
RIP |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
WTF???
I did not expect this at all. Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland - I think most of us saw those coming (at least as possibilities), but Chris Cornell? No way. I'm stunned. I really can't believe it. And he really was a great singer. I'm not the biggest Soundgarden or Audioslave fan (I like some songs from both bands, but dislike just as many), but I had (and still have) a ton of respect for Cornell. I was actually interested to hear what Audioslave could do as far as new material a decade removed from when they were active. He will be missed for sure. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
I was at the Soundgarden concert in Detroit last night. I'm in shock waking up to this. R.I.P.

WTF happened. He didn't have any current substance issues? I'll be honest, lately, he has looked a little too thin and frail... maybe he was sick. I was lucky to have seen Cornell solo and then when Soundgarden got back together in 2011. I was really looking forward to the likely possibility of an Audioslave tour. Damn, this sucks. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
One news outlet is reporting possible suicide.
http://www.wxyz.com/news/region/detr...-52-in-detroit I find that hard to believe, but who knows? I watched some clips from last nights show at the bottom of that story, and he looked really disinterested - as if he didn't want to be there. Was that his usual performing style, or was that out of the oridinary? (I'm used to musicians having more enthusiasm and looking like they're actually enjoying playing on stage...) |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Shocking. Fuck.
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Was shocked to hear the news on my drive in to work this morning.
One of my favourite singers of all-time. RIP Chris :( |

Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Wow totally unexpected news. I liked some of Soundgarden's work but wasn't a diehard fan. I really like Temple of the Dog though and he was a good singer. RIP.
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Damn, what a shock. I was never much into Soundgarden, but I loved Chris's solo work. He had such a unique vocal and range.
I'm also in shock that Sammy Hagar is approaching 70. Life is going by too freaking fast. |

Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Yeah, for sure. It was just a far cry from the last time I saw Stone Temple Pilots. Scott was a zombie.
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Damn. I have been listening to some Soundgarden live shit in my car all week.
Eddie Vedder is the only one of the major players from that scene and era left. |

Shocking news to wake up to today. :( http://i.imgur.com/SpmhSNh.jpg The Today Show highlighted his last tweet but someone didn't check one of the hashtags. Oops... |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Bummer.
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Completely stunned...
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Sucks.
One of the best rock singers/screamers of all time. Was he dealing with depression? |

'Badmotorfinger' is currently testing the limits of my desktop's speakers. I might have to purchase new ones before the day is out. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Wow, shocking and sad news. I really liked Soundgarden and some of his solo stuff. His Bond song kicked ass.
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Shocking. It's going to be a rough around here for the next month or so. :(
|
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Damn, sad and shocking news. I was never a big Soundgarden fan, but I recognized the guy's talent. His Audioslave and solo material was underrated.
:( Way too young. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Shitty news to wake up to. :(
Saw him live once here at The Wiltern after Audioslave broke up and way before Soundgarden reunited. I also saw Audioslave 2-3 times in concert. Shit, never did get to see Soundgarden live either. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Wow. I was going to see Soundgarden tomorrow night.
Really sad to hear this news about Chris. |

5:34 AM PT -- TMZ has confirmed with police the family friend had to force his way into Cornell's room and found him with a band around his neck. We're told there was no blood, and police suspect suicide based on the scene. 5:05 AM PT -- A report from Detroit's WXYZ says Cornell's body was discovered on the bathroom floor of his hotel room at MGM Grand Detroit after Soundgarden's show Wednesday night. Cornell's wife allegedly called a family friend to check on the singer ... and police are saying it appears Cornell died from an apparent suicide. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Yeah, this one came a shock to me as well like Paxton. Two good guys (well I assume good guys as I obviously didn't know them) you never heard anything bad about - sad.

Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Man, Soundgarden was part of the soundtrack to my high school years. RIP
Val Kilmer just posted: Val Kilmer 11 mins · Dear Chris Cornell used to come to my parties n Hollywood n play quietly in th corner until all the woman were literally at his feet listenin. He was such a great song writer and so humble about it. A real artist. And that voice... |

Eddie Vedder is the only one of the major players from that scene and era left. This is hitting me pretty hard - cornell was one of the most unique and reconizable voices in music, and one of the major voices during my formative years. I liked Prince just as much as the next guy... but this was my music. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn All I want for you to do is take my body home Those are the opening lines to the last song Chris Cornell ever sang on stage. It was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying." Cornell and his band Soundgarden have covered the song before and they did it again to close out the show at Detroit's Fox Theater on Wednesday. |

Nothing confirmed but it looks like it was possibly suicide:

Not to mention Mark Arm, who was incredibly influential even if he (and Mudhoney) never got the popular accolades that Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam did.

Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Chris Cornell was not depressed or in a suicidal state the evening he died ... this according to his wife. Sources who spoke with Chris' wife Thursday morning tell TMZ, Vicky Cornell spoke with her husband during soundcheck before he took the stage in Detroit and after Wednesday night's show. According to our sources, Vicky says Chris was NOT in any way, shape or form in a suicidal state. She doubled down and said there were no signs he was at all depressed. We're told Vicky tried reaching Chris in his hotel room early Thursday morning but he was not answering. She became concerned and asked someone to call hotel security. That's when Chris' body was discovered. Vicky told people Thursday morning he was devoted to his kids -- ages 16, 12 and 11 -- and she didn't believe he would take his life. That said, law enforcement says Chris' death is an apparent suicide, which raises the question of if he had fallen off the wagon. |

Who I think is the most talented singer of the bunch. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
Terrible news to wake up to, especially to his friends and family.
Not a superfan, but his voice was still part of the soundtrack of the last few decades and never seemed to get old. |
Re: Chris Cornell dead at 52
I'm in total shock this morning. On the one hand, I am saddened that his voice is forever silenced. On the other hand, I am frustrated and mad that somebody could take their own life. He must have been battling some serious inner demons to do this right in the middle of a tour. My heart aches for his family. He was truly a unique talent.
