Re: My theory on why MTV doesn't play music videos anymore
This is sad when A&E will have a biography on MTV and when they played music

“Biography: I Want My MTV” charts the rise of a cultural phenomenon that came to define a generation: MTV. What started during the nascent days of cable television as a scrappy, playful music video lineup, rapidly evolved into a reflection of American youth culture. As MTV came of age, the network pushed the boundaries of art, sex, gender and race, while cementing its image to celebrity. And when the information revolution raged, MTV was at the forefront exploring new technologies.
“I Want My MTV” weaves together exclusive interviews with the network’s founders and VJs, artists and journalists, along with rarely seen archival footage and outtakes, including an interview with the late David Bowie that was never broadcast on television. The documentary, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and became a crowd favorite at festivals around the world, details the story of a network that evokes youth for a generation now grown, and influenced the global media landscape for decades to come.
Interview subjects include Sting, Pat Benatar, Billy Idol, Annie Lennox, Nancy Wilson, Fab Five Freddy, Norman Lear, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, among many others.

Re: My theory on why MTV doesn't play music videos anymore
I'm not sure what it is called but MTV does have a secondary channel that plays little more than current music videos and recent concerts. No DJs or any sort of hosts, just straight playing of videos with occasional commercial breaks. Viacom bought out music channel Palladia and rebranded it into this secondary MTV channel.

That is MTV Live or channel 572 on Directv.
I wish they would play more brand new live concerts on that channel since there is a surplus of live shows across the world you could tape and put on TV.
I hope that channel does not go away or music on TV would become extinct.

Don't worry. Before long MTV Live will be nothing but Martin re-runs.

Music is geared towards kids, or teens. Nowadays, most teens listen to rap. MTV isnt going to play 24 hours of rap videos, and most of these popular rap songs are done by fly by night rappers who are mostly one hit wonders, who don't even release albums, but put out one single which is forgotten about in a couple of months to be never heard from again.
