Prince wrongful death case, including against Walgreens, Illinois hospital, dismissed; estate case continues.

It looks like this web will never get untangled. What a mess.

His Blue Cloud 2 guitar sold for $563,00 at an auction

Prince’s “Blue Angel” Cloud 2 electric guitar — “the most significant Prince guitar that’ll ever come up for auction” — sold for a high bid of $563,000 Saturday, exceeding pre- auction estimates.

The 1984 custom-made instrument, long thought to be lost, was played by Prince on the tours in support of Purple Rain, Parade, Sign O’ the Times and Lovesexy, as well as television appearances in the second half of the 1980s.

“In a sea of Clouds — because there are a lot of them — the thing that brings a collectible guitar the most value is how much mojo it has,” Julien’s Auctions consulting specialist Laura Woolley previously told Rolling Stone. “Prince came into the collective consciousness in the Eighties and this was one of his primary performance guitars at that time. So it’s got a lot of mojo.”

Auction house president Darren Julien called the “Blue Angel” the “most significant Prince guitar that’ll ever come up for auction,” although it didn’t break the record for highest-selling Prince guitar: A green model of the Cloud design sold for $700,000 in 2019.

That's pretty. Hope it goes to a museum in his hometown or to the R&R HoF

Just for fun I Googled the list of the "10 most expensive guitars at auction", neither of the Prince ones were on it - might be an old list. Lotsa Clapton though. I remember when Brownie was sold. .

It's a shitty article, too. They show SRVs Number One and claim it to be Lenny. They also show a Strat that's supposed to be Jimi Hendrix' Strat, but is an actual left-handed guitar, while Jimi played a right-handed guitar, strung upside down.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Yeah, their pictured guitar is confusing... It is actually a right handed guitar, but with the head installed like a left handed guitar and the pickup layout to match Jimi's.

I'm thinking it's for right handed players that want the same sound as Jimi.

An old girlfriend was a HUGE Clapton fan. When he was auctioning off Brownie (and others) we drove up to Christies in Beverly Hills to look at all his stuff on exhibit. Brownie was the only guitar in a plexiglass display. The others were just on guitar stands. Eric, of course, wasn't there yet but she thinks she recognized his guitar tech.

Wonder how they 2020 remaster will sound on vinyl.

I got the most recent vinyl not long ago, and that sounds pretty good - tough to see them improve on that.

anybody know what happened to the Prince Channel on SiriusXM? It was on Channel 30 for a week or two and then poof! Googling yields no results.

I read that the Super Deluxe version is going to be a one time printing so once it is gone, it is gone. If you want it, better pre-order it when it becomes available. Don't see it on Amazon yet.

It was limited run, just like the Guns N Roses channel and a couple others. Sad because he definitely has the catalog to support it.

My wallet is still recovering from the 1999 remaster purchases

I wonder when Controversy will get the remastered treatment?

FYI, Prince radio is available again, but only on the app/streaming, not in the car. It will only be through mid-August though, I believe.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Wasn't sure to put this here or the Netflix thread. Prince's estate has officially blocked the release of a complete, multi-part doc on Prince because they feel it would cancel him. The creator spent almost 5 years making it. They instead will produce their own for Netflix, which I'm SURE won't be a fluff piece filled with missing holes about his life.

If anyone wants more info on the film we'll never see, check out this pod.

Accurate from Anil Dash

For those asking, there would be no more appropriate tribute than if the definitive statement about Prince’s life is a challenging, genius work with tangled IP rights whose creator is desperately trying to get released, but can only be watched as a grainy bootleg traded illicitly amongst fans.

That sucks. And how the Prince estate would think you could do a documentary on Prince with zero black marks during his life, I have no idea.

You know Prince was a controversial subject from when he was alive with his music and interviews that he gave.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Many years ago my family spent a summer in Europe. Technology was far more limited than today, but our little television had the ability to display very limited interactive news headlines. They were rarely updated. One headline in particular was an announcement of the death of John Gotti. It seemed to stay up there forever, no matter how often - or not often - the other headlines were updated. It became a running joke for my family that summer. "John Gotti is still dead."

I remember this every time a thread such as this one is updated.

This does stink. If EPE allowed the Elvis movie from 2022 to show the good, the bad, and the ugly side of Elvis' life, the Prince estate would allow this to be made. The guy didn't live a perfect life, he made mistakes like we all do. It's still had to believe that he didn't have a will.

Apparently the estate has a different bio coming out that has their approval.

This sucks. Wasn't the doc supposed to include footage that Kevin Smith shot for a doc that Prince was working on back in the day? (famously detailed in the 2002 An Evening with Kevin Smith DVD). I really wanted to see some of that shit.

Yeah, that was hilarious.

From Smith's story, Prince sounded like he was crazier than a shithouse rat. Good thing they never noticed that Kevin never signed the NDA they gave him.

Makes me wonder what kinds of tales the people around other A-listers could tell if they weren't held under NDAs..
