Prince dead at 57. RIP

The artist known as Prince has died ... TMZ has learned. He was 57.
Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.
The singer -- full name Prince Rogers Nelson -- had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu

Is it too early to ask where Charlie Murphy was at the time?
Seriously though, the man was about as legendary as they come. Lemmy clearly must have needed a guitarist for that band he is putting together up there in heaven.

I never was a big fan, or even a casual one, but I respected what the man did for music. And, man, could he shred on guitar.
Maybe it's finally time to watch "Purple Rain"...

Interesting all the stories leading up with the airplane that had to land and then he said he was fine. I wonder what it was.

Holy shit.
I wasn't really a huge Prince fan, but he's one of the most influential recording artists of the last 30+ years.

I can't believe this. Just...can't. 57? Fuck. One of the best performers I've ever seen, one of the best shows I ever went to. Shit.

My whole family just saw him playing in Oakland at the Oracle a few weeks ago. Fantastic, intimate performance...just a piano, a microphone, and variations on classic songs.
He was one of the very best musicians. Ever.

Crazy, and not even up to his 60s yet.
For some reason it makes me think pulmonary embolism.

Better source than TMZ confirms it:
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) — Pop music superstar Prince has been found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis.
His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told The Associated Press the music icon was found dead at his home Thursday in Chanhassen.
The singer, songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era, drawing upon influences ranging from James Brown to the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix. His hits included "Little Red Corvette," ''Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry."
The Minneapolis native broke through in the late 1970s with the hits "Wanna Be Your Lover" and soared over the following decade with such albums as "1999" and "Purple Rain."
The title song from "1999" includes one of the most widely quoted refrains of popular culture: "Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999."
