And the only way to listen to your own music in your car (I'm old and I first started driving way before they had CD player for cars, so cassettes players in cars were a godsend). But these days, I just plug my ipod (which is already antiqued) into my car's USB, and have access to almost 2,000 albums all at once.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

I stored all of my cassettes in a old 1990 Air Jordan shoe box lol.

I only use them to tape sports talk shows on the radio and now most shows you can get on podcasts so that is not really necessary anymore.

Vinyl is so much cooler and you get all the artwork.

I am too lazy to connect my ipod to my car. I don't think there is a line in jack so it will require some work to get it done.

I alternate between streaming Spotify over bluetooth and the 500+ albums on my USB stick. It's a great time to listen to music in a newer vehicle.

Yes, but that era has passed. Cassettes hardly deserve a revival.

US Bank Stadium the new home of the Vikings honored him with a mural which will be displayed inside the stadium.

Too bad he never got a chance to open the new digs with a concert in August.

27 Years Ago Today: Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ Is Released in Theaters.

It was exactly 27 years ago on July 27, 1984 that Purple Rain, the film that elevated and cemented Prince as a pop culture icon, was released. The film was released just as the legendary musician was ascending the pop stratosphere, and afterwards, the world would never forget his name.

The album of the same name was already at the top of the charts when the theatrical movie landed in theaters. Purple Rain was Prince’s acting debut and it raked in nearly $70 million at the domestic box office.

The semi-autobiographical musical tells the story of The Kid’s (Prince) rise to music fame in Minneapolis, while navigating rocky relationships with his parents, rivals and his would-be girlfriend, singer Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). The Albert Magnolia-directed film proved that Prince could be just as fascinating in a feature-length movie as he was onstage and in music videos; and it was the perfect movie for the MTV generation.

The film went on to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for the soundtrack, which gave us the popular hits like “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy” and the iconic title song. The Purple Rain soundtrack is Diamond-certified; and continues to be an inspiration among musicians and fans worldwide.

Although we lost the icon on April 21, the world continues to celebrate Prince’s life.

Dang, this makes me feel old. I was going into the 10th grade when this film was released.

Either I suck at math or that would have been 32 years ago today and not 27 years ago.

They'll probably be really upset when they find out he died.

I might get bashed for this but I think Prince is extremely overrated, especially now that people are making such a huge deal over him after his death (which is what usually happens). I don't dislike him, Purple Rain is a great album, but he has done nearly 40 albums & that's not counting his side projects.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Hope this is broadcast on TV.

Prince's family has announced an official tribute concert in his honor will take place this fall, according to the Associated Press. It's slated to happen October 13 at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, with performers to be announced in the months to come.

I didn't like anything after purple rain either. It changed to a different kind of music though after that, so I can't really say if it was bad or good, just not my taste. I do certainly remember him pumping out a TON of albums, and a lot of people complaining that they were mostly crap.

So what? Many of those albums are good. He continued to make great music, you just haven't heard it because it didn't make it up the charts. I agree that Kiss, for example, is a shitty song. Why that shit plays continuously on the radio is beyond me. He has many better songs that never got spun ounce on the radio.

And as I've said before, what's happening on YouTube right now since his passing has solidified his greatness to me. Seeing the live stuff from the '80s and '90s really fills in the gaps of what he was doing creatively. The concepts on the records were expressed in his live shows, and frequently the live version was better than the record.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Kiss is a brilliant song, he hardly made a misstep in the '80s. From Graffiti Bridge on his work was more hit and miss, but when it hit it hit hard.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

His music became less melodic sometimes during the 90's and he had some good songs but most of them were pretty slow and long.

You can hate MJ but if was not there maybe Purple Rain might not have happened since that album was mostly pop and made to conquer Thriller in album sales.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Warner Bros will release remastered versions of Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge, and Under the Cherry Moon on Blu-ray with purple snap cases on Oct 4, 2016.

Well lets hope they are remastered and not just the packaging.

As much as I liked his music, Prince's movies were crap.

I agree. I do like Purple Rain mostly for the performances by The Revolution & The Time.

I already have the first BD of Purple Rain, it looks and sounds good. Not sure if it's worth the double dip.

Purple Rain isn't a particularly great movie, but it just perfectly captures the mid-80s zeitgeist.

Isn't something like that incomplete without Sign O' The Times? Granted, not exactly your normal-type movie, but it was a theatrical release.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Just skip to the musical segments though it is annoying watching Apollonia giving Prince dirty looks whenever he is playing a song in Purple Rain.

I think you can get it on Blu-ray overseas

I hope they release that 1985 Syracuse concert that got a VHS release on Blu-ray.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

I have Sign o' the Times on BD from Canada, and it's really good quality.

And I have a soft spot for Under the Cherry Moon. But it is pretty bad.
