Re: Post a song you like or love.

^^^ I remember them!

Here's a fun singalong which depends a lot on clever lyrics. Probably easier to pick them out from the original album track, but this live recording is pretty clear, although Dar forgets the last stanza & has to be helped by crowd (it was evidently an fan request & not part of the songlist). I've seen her in concert; very personable, as her good-natured crowd rapport shows.

Sort of an anthem to self-reliant women who take things in hand (no pun) when a perv is reported hanging out around their kids.

The amazing, mystical, phenomenal, unique, ageless Rory Block performing "Silver Wings"...a tribute to her son, who died in a car accident. This song always makes me tear up.

Rory is one of those artists whose vocals & playing sound perfect whether in studio or live. "Lossless" sound indeed.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Saw a clip from last night's Blue Rodeo concert at Massey Hall where Gord Downie joined in "Lost Together". It's in my head, so I figure I'd post the song.

Tom Waits. Gun Street Girl.

Say what you like, but the man commits to a performance.

"Take Care of All My Children", a lovely, melancholy Tom Waits song, featured in the great documentary Streetwise.

Timothy Schmidt singing Poco's "Keep On Trying" live with Ringo's All-Starr Band.

Backing vocals include Todd Rundgren, Burton Cummings, Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dave Edmunds.

Simple, gorgeous harmonies.

Been listening to this a lot lately- from the movie "Nerve". This is supposed to be the "official video" though there's not much to look at.

One of my favorite Tangerine Dream tracks, hard to believe this is from 1976:

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Didn't they also do the soundtrack for Das Boot?

Anyway, great track. The underlying synth track reminds me of this favorite Jan Hammer Vice track. Hammer time!

They've done many film soundtracks. My fav is the amazingly apposite score they composed for the masterpiece Miracle Mile.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Bruce Cockborn's "All Our Dark Tomorrows" was written just after Dubya took office, but it could just as well apply to the present situation.

Lyrics:
The village idiot takes the throne
His the wind in which all must sway
All sane people, die now
Be lifted up and carried away
You've got no home in this world of sorrows

There's a parasite feeding on
Everybody's bag of rage
What goes out returns again
To smite the mouth and burn the page
Under the rain of all our dark tomorrows

I can see in the dark, it's where I used to live
I see excess and the gaping need
Follow the money see where it leads
It's to shrunken men stuffed up with greed
They meet and make plans in strange half-lit tableaux

Under the rain of all our dark tomorrows

You've got no home in this world of sorrows

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Two from Robyn Hitchcock's collaboration with Gillian Welch & David Rawlings (2004's "Spooked").

And this one just for you, Norm...
