Scott Weiland - Dead at 48

Pretty much. I know it's "such a tragedy" when sometime dies from drugs. But if it was his thing, I won't judge. You should be able to live how you want to live. If living a long extended life isn't your thing, that's fine with me. Not everyone wants to jump on the hamster wheel. Scott Weiland got to do stuff that most people don't get to do. And he gave us some awesome music (Core, Purple and Tiny Music are great). RIP.

I've been revisiting my affection for Weiland's catalogue and have much greater appreciation for the quality of his music. As others have said, he had an amazing voice and ability to work a stage.
I recommend the STP Live In The Windy City DVD which covers all 6 STP albums. It has great audio and video and is a great tribute to the man and his music. RIP Scott. You will be missed.

One year gone today. Still fucking hurts. Spent the past year revisiting his impressive catalog and it always elevates my mood and gives me joy. What more can you ask of from an artist?

I skimmed the thread briefly. When Prince died we had several posters who railed about him being a "junkie" and therefore unworthy of mourning. But there were no such posts in this thread.

My wife is a huge Weiland fan and I give her grief about her liking junkies (Layne Staley and Shannon Hoon are a couple other of her favorites). She has pointed out that he was on a prescription med that is pain killer for people that have opioid addictions and one that you can not take them while in your system; and that cocaine and a ton of prescription pills were in his system. If you watch some of his last shows on youtube you can see how jacked up he is and how bad his voice his from all the substance abuse. His addiction cost him a couple of marriages and his children, it's pathetic that someone with his talent threw it all away.

No one said Prince was unworthy of mourning (although I question how anyone can actually mourn someone they don't personally know). I remember posts just telling it like it is and not trying to put a spin on it. This happens often with celebrity OD deaths - calling it an "accidental overdose" (aren't all non-suicidal ODs accidents anyway?) or putting the blame on the dealer/pharmacist/etc. (ie. Prince, Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, etc). We just called Prince what he was - a junkie who had no one to blame but himself... just like Weiland. It may not have been mentioned much in this thread for Weiland because everyone was aware of his drug problems - so it was nothing new to mention.

Sorry but when I think of a junkie Weilend is the perfect embodiment. Prince was a guy taking opiods for pain that got hooked. There's a huge difference.
And Cusm: What is there two love about Shannon Hoon? He wrote one hit song that's aweful. Is there something else I'm not aware of?

If you get past the MTV over saturation of No Rain, which was a a year or two old when they started playing it, they are pretty good. Ironically he died like Weiland not from their drug of choice, heroin, but a crack bender.
