Re: Metric - Synthetica (06/12/12)

Have had a few months to fully digest and appreciate this now. Great album - I almost like it more than Fantasies at this point.

Speed the Collapse and Synthetica are my favourites. Artificial Nocturne is an epic opener as well.

Really liking it. Don't think there is a song I dislike, just like in varying degrees.

Artificial Nocturne is the fucking shit LIVE!

It was sweet hearing the songs live.

Metric

And my new amazing discovery is Metric. They did the Black Sheep song on Scott Pilgrim. They have a really cool indie rock/new wave-ish sound and they've been produced by folks that have worked with Shiny Toy Guns and The Sounds, etc.

Re: Metric

I fucking love Metric. I saw them open for Phoenix at the Greek theater a few years back and they easily blew Phoenix out of the water. They're great live and their last two or three records have been really exceptional.

Re: Metric

Agreed. I saw them open for someone (can't remember now) a few years back and the were just a tremendous live band.

You need to find a copy of their album Fantasies immediately.

Re: Metric

I just got into them maybe a year ago. They get played a tonne on the radio here and all of a sudden I realized that all these songs I was digging was Metric. One of my favorite bands now.

Definitely. Pick up Fantasies. And they're about to go on tour with Imagine Dragons as their opening act. So if you like ID as well, go see them. I've loved Metric for years and have always had a thing for Emily Haines. If you like her voice, she's done guest vocals on a few songs for Delerium. Those sound different but are worth checking out as well. My favorite song right now is Speed the Collase off Synthetica.

Re: Metric

Coincidentally, I have Fantasies at my desk now at work. I usually stick with my classic old school postpunk/new wave bands, and I don't keep up with many new bands. I read some good buzz about this band, and like this album well enough. Probably wouldn't rank them up there with Yeah Yeah Yeahs though, just going by this album.

Yeah, that's what caused me to listen to their stuff. We're seeing them open up for Imagine Dragons in the summer.

Exactly. I was lukewarm on their latest release, but Fantasies was my favorite album of that year.

I regret not seeing them the past couple of times they came through town, but I'll catch of show of theirs at some point.

Re: Metric

I may need to revisit Metric and check out Fantasies. When I checked them out before, I thought the music was pretty boring, but maybe I didn't give it enough of a shot.

This sentence is pretty funny out-of-context and without the capital F.

Re: Metric

Been a fan since Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, which happened to drop at the time I was doing a Canadian alternative show on our local volunteer radio station. Still haven't seen them live, though.

Re: Metric

Love Metric, especially the last 2 albums.

Artificial Nocturne on Synthetica is one of the best album openers in a long time.

Re: Metric

Loved Metric for a long time, since when I first heard their song "Grow Up And Blow Away" in a Polaroid commercial way back in the late 90's. It would be some years before that song, and the same titled album it came off of would get an eventual release, but by then, they had changed their sound quite a bit. I liked the new direction even more. As others have stated, I think Fantasies is my favorite album by them, and they are also devastatingly great live.

If you dig Metric, you may also like the Welsh band The Joy Formidable. Their sound is similar in places, but much more heavy in most.
