Disco was rather silly in its time, but had many great records in hindsight.

The greatest band of alltime that played music that would be described as "Americana" is composed of 4 Canadians and one American.

The Cranberries put out 2 really GREAT albums in the 90's that should have received a better critical response and earned them a better legacy.

And I don't know if I would call that statement about the group's composition bold, just irony.

"Safety Dance" was NOT the best song by Men Without Hats.
"True" was NOT the best song by Spandau Ballet.

Well, yeah, it's pretty much accepted by everyone that a band's biggest hit is rarely, if ever, their best song.
And now I want to see someone attempt to do goth country

I actually ignored Men Without Hats back in the day because I hated Safety Dance, especially that dopey video with the dwarf and the spastic girl. It was only a couple of years ago that I discovered what a great synth pop band they were.

This thread really reinforces just how much I hate Queen and U2.
So, there's a bold statement - Queen and U2 were/are both terrible bands.

Did you pick up the 2012 album? Really great synthpop.

Led Zeppelin's very best songs are mostly their ballads.
Going to California, Tangerine, The Rain Song, Thank You, Stairway To Heaven etc

Country music radio deejays in the 1970s and 1980s were absolutely hyper. Market research had shown that listening to one depressing song after another made listeners non-specifically unhappy, and unhappy listeners changed stations. So radio stations had the deejays turn it up to eleven to keep the listeners' mood up.

The Foo Fighters are agonizingly overhyped and commercialized to the point of nausea. How anyone can listen to them at this point is beyond me. My god, can you turn on ANY televised event without seeing fucking Dave Grohl? Typing his name makes me cringe at this point. Their music is homogenized classic rock with absolutely no originality.

Rod Stewart in his prime made far better and more interesting music than Eric Clapton in his prime.
Boston's debut album inspired a hell of a lot of indie / grunge / alternative bands, it's just not a "cool" influence to cite.
The Rolling Stones were really all about their rhythm section.
Daryl Hall & John Oates' third album "Abandoned Luncheonette" is one of the greatest and most overlooked albums of the early seventies.

I'd put his first four solo albums (not to mention his 4 albums with The Faces and two with Jeff Beck) not just against the best of Clapton, but against the best of the Stones, Beatles and Who. If he had died in 1975, he'd be a legend, instead of the embarrassment he's turned himself into.

How does one compare a vocalist to a blues guitarist? Odd.
And while Boston is one hell of an album, I'm not seeing the inspirational aspects. It is what it is - a feel good rock and roll album from 1976. Punk and indie bands were running like hell from that sound at the time.
