Beck -- "Morning Phase" -- New Album -- Feb. 2014
From Consequence of Sound:
Beck has announced his first album of new material since 2008′s Modern Guilt. Entitled Morning Phase, it will be released in February 2014 through Beck’s new label, Capitol Records.
According to a press release, Morning Phase “has been described as a companion piece of sorts” to Beck’s acclaimed 2002 album Sea Change. It features many of the same who played on that record (and who currently accompany him live), specifically Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner. The press release also notes that “Morning Phase harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism.”
A complete tracklisting, exact release date, and further information will be released “as it is confirmed.” As previously reported, Beck also has a second album on the way, which has been described as “small-bore, self-contained” acoustic effort. No word on when that will surface.
--------
Really looking forward to this. Five long years since Modern Guilt.

It's already been five years? How time flies.
Can't wait for this one, as Sea Change is my favorite Beck album.

Hell. Yes. I made the other topic about how it's been the longest gap between albums since Beck started making music. I've been liking the songs he's put out between then and now, but a new album and a similar tone to Sea Change? Great news.

It is deceptive, it caught me right away, not at strong as I Won't Be Long but it is very layered and the harmonies are very good. Towards the end, he add some synth or guitar runs that brings it home nicely. Of course, I love the lyrics and subject matter. I feel it is a beautiful song!

Heard the whole album. If you're a fan of Sea Change, you will love this album. Has the same feel and sound as Sea Change with the same kind of dynamic, pristine sound quality. Have only listened twice but it's already feeling like a masterpiece.

My God, this really is Sea Change 2.0. Are we sure these aren't just songs that didn't make it onto the final edition of Sea Change?
I like it though. I liked Sea Change as well, but it's not my favorite Beck album.

I'm also pumped to read that this is 1 of 2 albums that Beck is supposed to release this year. According to wiki, one of his recording collaborators said Beck has about 3-4 albums worth of unreleased material.

I'm through my 2nd listen and it's growing on me. Really digging this, it's an early album of the year contender. I would be stunned if it doesn't remain a top 3 of the year.
There's only one song I don't care for (Wave).
Everything else is excellent (except the 30-40 second transitional tracks, those don't count)

I've only listened to it once through so far but I already love it. Waking Light is the best song Beck's recorded since, well, Sea Change.

Listened to this and I think I like this better than Sea Change. It may take a couple of more listens to be for sure but Beck did an incredible job with this. And yes Waking Light man that will be on repeat everytime I play this album.

Yeah, why would anyone, especially someone who loves music, ever get a record on vinyl? HMMMM?
P.S. I also have it pre-ordered on vinyl.
