Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

Drummer Jukka Nevalianen made his first comments in years to a Finnish paper. He said he no longer suffers from chronic insomnia, which is what led to his departure in the first place, and said he still handles all the Nightwish business.

I got the vague impression from his comments that he might simply not wish to return as drummer but stay as the biz guy. He has 3 small kids, after all. 18 month tours might not sit well with him. The band is taking 2017 off, so we'll see if he returns or not. I hope he does, I liked his playing.

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

With the new Blu-ray about to hit stores - I think they're featuring the Mexico City performance and Ghost Love Score from this set is #2 on my favorite versions with Floor - the first being from the Argentina show when she was still not an official member. Phenomenal.

In any event, I really like the "Floorgasm" at the end of the song. I've seen Tarja's version and she just walks off, which I don't like. That little "oomph" at the end by Floor gives me chills.

@ the 44min - 45min is when it starts.

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

The Vehicle of Spirit Blu-ray (mentioned above) released in the US this week. Just finished watching the concert on the 2nd disc (The Tampere Show). Too many close-up camera shots, but the music sounds great. The first disc has a Wembley show with a few different tunes from the Tampere one. And there are a 10 extra live songs from various shows on the 2nd disc. I like it.

Yeah, I've had this disc for 2 weeks now - it was released in Europe first (imported it from Amazon.de). I prefer the Wembley show over the Tampere one.

The LPCM tracks sound phenomenal but the DD 5.1 sounds really low.

There will be a 9-month tour next year. No L.A. show, so looks like I will be seeing them at The Grove in Anaheim.

In March 2018, symphonic metal legends NIGHTWISH will begin their nine-month-long "Decades: World Tour 2018" starting with 34 shows in North America.

The band will have a very special setlist for the tour, featuring rarely heard material from the earlier era, and excitingly for both band and fans, they will revisit the old songs with some new twists.

This setlist will be a "one-off" and only performed on this "Decades: World Tour 2018".

To accompany the tour, Nuclear Blast will release a 2CD compilation, "Decades", on March 9.

"Decades: North America 2018" tour dates:

Mar. 09 - Atlanta, GA - Tabernable

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

Just watched this on Blu-ray and it was great. It reminded me of the Vehicle of Spirit release from a few years ago. It has a DD 5.1 and LPCM 2.0 track. I prefer the LPCM track.

Their new album comes out in a few months, as well:

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

This probably deserves its own thread, but this guy was Nightwish's booking agent in North America. They just posted that the band has severed all ties with him. Basically, sounds like he was the Weinstein of the metal world.

He kinda makes Weinstein look good, in comparison.

Read Catch and Kill from Ronan Farrow if you actually believe this. Weinstein brutally raped multiple women by force and retaliated against those that spoke up, for 20+ years.

that metal sucks article seemed to be of a hit piece, lots of bad behavior, where quantity tipped the balance rather than severity. Finberg was a creep and wanted to use whatever influence he had working mid-level club bands into hooking up with merch girls or groupies. And he apparently was vindictive against those that complained. Certainly on the #metoo scale of 1-Aziz to 10-Weinstein/Cosby, I would put Finberg around 6.

But, yeah, hopefully someone will pick up these bands, he was a master at getting great European bands into the US. Nightwish was big, but he picked up Avantasia, Helloween, Dark Tranquillity, and other bands that may not come to the US without Finberg's ability to guarantee enough money to these bands to fund the costs to come here.

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

Floor may be staying, but Marko is out...

Nightwish just posted a statement from Marko announcing his resignation:

Resignation announcement from Marko:

Dear people.

I am leaving Nightwish and my public life.

For a quite a few years now I haven’t been able to feel validated by this life. We have streaming company big guns demanding 9/5 work from artists of inspiration while unfairly sharing the profits. Even among the artists. We’re the banana republic of the music industry. Biggest tour promoters squeeze percentages even from our own merchandise while paying dividends to Middle East. Apparently some theocrasies can take the money from the music that would get you beheaded or jailed there without appearing as hypocrites. Just a couple of examples here.

This past year forced me to stay home and think. And I found myself very disillusioned about these and a lot of things. I found out that I am in need of that validation. For me to write, sing and play, I need to find some new reasons and inspirations. ”My Walden” so to speak. And it’s even in my book that I’m a chronic depressive. It’s dangerous for me and the people around me, if I continue. Some of the thoughts a while back were dark. Don’t worry, I’m fine. I have my two sons, a wife, the rest of the family, friends, a dog and lots of love.

And I don’t think that I’ll be gone for good.

Conspiracy is the word of the day. For the people who like them I need to say that my 55th birthday is now on 14th of Jan and I’ve certainly done my time for now. Blaming for instance Tuomas is an insult to both him and my free thinking. This is a very sad thing to all of us too. Have a care please.

But of course now we’ll know, if some go there on purpose.

There are a couple of things agreed on that I will do on 2021. Otherwise I kindly and with respect ask the media, bands, artists projects etc. to not ask me for anything within the next year. I have some reinventing to do. I hope to tell you about it on 2022. It’s not a promise though.

I am so sorry about this.

Marko Hietala

P.S. Tony Iommi is an exception to the “no contact whatsoever”. Childhood hero takes a precedence.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Marko`s resignation has left us with some difficult decisions and choices to be made. After much thought and consideration, we have, in mutual understanding, decided to perform the upcoming 'Human. :II: Nature. -world tour' as planned, but with a session bass player.

The live line-up will be announced at a later date.

We respect Marko`s decision and wish him all the very best. We will not comment any further."

Nightwish
And he just won the Finnish version of "The Masked Singer."

He gave it a good run. Given the state of things and that crap with Finnberg, I can't blame him.

Reading that first paragraph, he felt that they were getting the shaft on the money, while being forced to work a regular schedule. If they're going to get a session player for live performances I guess they're going to have to redesign the set-list to have all Floor vocal tracks.

Kai Hahto also mentioned health issues, which I suppose he’s meaning mental based on what Marko stated. Hope he takes a good break and gets back into a good state. I have a feeling we’ll see him again in the future.

... but honestly, there will be a void left in the group for some time.

I really think this is bigger than Tarja's departure.

When I thought of Nightwish, I thought of Tuomas/Marco. The same way people think GNR is Axl/Slash/Duff.

Re: Nightwish make it official: Floor Jansen is staying

The other thing I noticed, yesterday or the day before yesterday was a venue change for their rescheduled show this fall. It was originally going to be held at the Palladium in Hollywood and now the new venue is the Wiltern. I wonder if multiple venues are switching them about or downsizing them. I'd prefer The Wiltern because it's a more comfortable setting. The Palladium is one big standing room area and Wiltern has seats and balcony, etc. Even the event page said that all seats would be GA at the Wiltern, so I reckon it'll be a first come, first served for a seat there. The Palladium is also all GA, so it makes sense to make Wiltern all GA, as well.

Jukka Koskinen is the new session and upcoming tour bass player. I'll be checking them out tomorrow evening in the stream concert. (I still think Marko will comeback someday )

Tuomas is taller than Floor by 2". The picture is deceiving because of the depth and her tall shoes.
