I would have voted but you forgot the "Easily in my top five songs of all time" option.

It's a superb tune and I recall vividly where and what I was doing the first time I heard it. It's like my own "JFK got shot" moment. Sure, his nasally monotone vocals are an acquired taste, but the man managed to make a classic album basically using a single synth preset. Genius!

I like it.

I was barely 15 years old when it first came out.

Hearing it brings back a lot of fond memories from those days.

I have 2 of his LPs: Replicas and Pleasure Principle. The song that first turned me onto Gary Numan was his tune Are 'Friends' Electric?

And keep in mind that he was barely even a man at the time. He was just 21 when he wrote and recorded The Pleasure Principle (even younger for Replicas and "Are 'Friends' Electric?" which was a worldwide chart-topper everywhere but America).

Also, a bit of trivia..."Cars" was a top 20 hit in three consecutive decades in the UK. It reached #1 in 1979, #16 in 1987, and #17 in 1996.

I disagree. It's 2013 and "Cars" still sounds like it's from the future.

To say this song sucks is to say all new wave songs suck including David Bowie's FAME.
The sound was original and fresh.

I don't think it sucks at all, but it's probably my least favorite track on PP. Goddamn, that album is just spectacular.

"Fame" is a funk song. I love Bowie, and he did make music that heavily influenced new wave, but "Fame" and the Young Americans album is blue-eyed soul and funk, not new wave.

How "Metal" was never released as a single is a mystery for the ages.

One of the greatest singles of the early eighties. The whole album is fantastic.

For what it's worth, Numan's live shows have the same vibe as NIN's club shows nowadays.

Massively great from the first second to the last. While some other acts were toying around with this sound, you cannot understate the impact a song like this had from the exposure on radio. It's a fully formed masterpiece and I feel stupid even having to say that.

Yes, I thought Metal was the real gem on PP. Overall, a very good album.
