I guess we both listen to CFNY then? I'm assuming you live in Southern Ontario since you seem to be a Sabres fan too.
Heard it for the first time on my drive home on Monday. Go Sabres! :D |

I vaguely recall they chose the odd spelling of "churches" so google and other searches would differentiate them from, you know, churches.
Not knocking them if they're your cup of tea, but the instrumentals were too sparse for my taste...reminded me of when my mom would be playing the organ & would hit the "glockenspiel" button. A bit "tinny" & empty. Too many of the songs just sound like demos with someone fooling around on a cheap keyboard, IMO. I like the vocals just fine, but I prefer more full-bodied instrumentals (Kate Bush, Simple Minds, etc.) for synth-based pop. Been watching Deutchesland 83 on Sundance TV & sit up every time the theme comes on (excerpted from Peter Schilling's "Major Tom"). |
Re: Chvrches
Really like the new song.

Re: Chvrches
I got the album from Itunes but the rest of the songs were ok and not on the level of the Mother We Share.

Re: Chvrches
Love this band. One of the best concerts I've ever been too. Can't wait for this album.

Re: Chvrches
Ha, so she decides to fight 4Chan. Talk about an exercise in futility.

Re: Chvrches
This is my most anticipated album in a long time. Like others, I thought the last one was pretty stellar top to bottom.

It's solid. That's about all I can say about it right now. :)

Re: Chvrches
I'm not quite enjoying the new album as much as their previous one, but I have a feeling it will soon grow on me. Some great songs on there, but I think Leave a Trace is still currently my favourite.

It's way more upbeat and danceable. If that even makes sense.
Chvrches are actually in the Live Lounge on Radio 1 (UK radio station) today. I'm not sure which songs they're performing yet though. Update: They performed Leave A Trace and also covered one of Justin Bieber's songs - not sure how I feel about that. :| |
Re: Chvrches
Just started listening to their first album, and I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. Gun & Lies are my 2 favorite tracks.
I will check out their new album as well. |
Re: Chvrches
New album is a slam dunk. It's a very consistent and polished album. I like it better than their debut which I liked a lot.
Favorite tracks: "Clearest Blue" and "Empty Threat". |
Re: Chvrches
So 3 years after I first saw them (before the first album even was out), I finally saw them again. This time was at a festival. Man... Lauren is MUCH more comfortable as a lead singer. She barely moved from behind the mic when I last saw them. She was all over the place, very engaging.

With tightly packed electronic hooks and Lauren Mayberry's soaring soprano, Chvrches went for the jugular on its sophomore album Every Open Eye. Up until this point, the electronic trio from Scotland has been self-produced, featuring band members Iain Cook and Martin Doherty's off-center, pulsating beats. This time around, the band has teamed up with Greg Kurstin, who's fresh off of a repeat win for producer of the year at the Grammys for his work with the Foo Fighters, Beck, Adele and Sia. Chvrches has always strayed shy of pure pop, but "Get Out" is the band's most ambitious pop effort to date, all without losing that distinct edge. Mayberry states that Kurstin "pushed what we were doing to be bigger in some ways, but he also pushed us to be weirder." Kurstin makes an appearance in the new video, which features nine interlocked feeds of security-style footage. The centerpiece is a clip of Mayberry crossing out a lipstick-drawn heart on a dirty bathroom mirror, which surfaced on social media feeds earlier this week. The imagery of mirrors plays into the lyrics: "Reflections you used to see / Never look alike to me." Chvrches hasn't made any formal announcements for LP3, but the band is playing June 3 at this year's Governor's Ball on Randall's Island. |
