Re: The VINYL Thread!

The box set was limited to 2000 I think. Sold out in about five minutes.

I secured a copy. For limited releases like this, it is good to keep mondo updates on twitter and jump on them every Wednesday upon release.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Waxwork put up their soundtrack to the new Goosebumps movie today.
I wasn't really interested in the movie, and my criteria for buying these scores is usually if I really enjoy the movie and/or score, so I wasn't sure I would pick it up.

However, once I realized it was a Danny Elfman score, and I saw that all the artwork on the release was done by the original Goosebumps book cover artist (Nostalgia overload! ), I grabbed one.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

That artwork is awesome. I'm almost tempted to buy that just based on the cover alone. I want to see the film and I like some of Elfman's scores but he can be hit and miss to me (especially with his newer stuff).

I'll say that I really liked the film a lot - it's a ton of fun - and Elfman's score is one of his better recent efforts. Add in a very attractive packaging and that cover art... this was an easy sell, to me.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I went ahead and pre-ordered the exclusive version. I don't buy a lot of albums on vinyl but it's way too cool looking for me to pass up.

I assume that Goosebumps artwork is meant to be an homage to Creepshow?

Knowing that a lot of you seem to be soundtrack fans, particularly of Horror, thought some of you might be interested in this...

Pretty cool but not sure that I really want to spend $40 plus however much shipping is for it.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My Nosferatu LP from Waxwork Record arrived today. I went with the limited Blue and Orange variant. I'm really digging the white marble standard edition, though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Picked up the boxed set of all 3 Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs "Under The Covers" releases. Six records on colored vinyl.

I love the music, arrangements, and performances. I just wish Sweet hadn't engineered the entire freakin' thing himself. Too loud, as per most releases these days, but volume 3 had the vocals so high up in the mix it was a sonic mess.

But then there's Susana Hoffs...

Re: The VINYL Thread!

A near mint 1959 Blue Mitchell record. I collect late 50s/early 60s jazz records and mintish copies simply don't exist in my world. Had to snag it.

I was between it and that Bob Dylan "Cutting Edge" box set. I went for the one I'll never see again.

Generally speaking, $100 is not a lot for a mint jazz record. Jazz collecting has become all about Blue Note records and they regular fetch 4-digit prices daily. It's a lot for me though because I foresee the value dropping on vinyl like baseball cards and beer can collections.

Oh wow.

Yeah, vinyl shouldn't be about the "value" of the item or return on investment. It's about the music. Replayability and all that. Believe me, I would not have started collecting vinyl if I thought I'd be able to get a better price on something down the road. Granted, if they increase in value then that's just a bonus. The most I've ever paid for a vinyl was about $75 shipped for a brand new copy of The Sounds' "Dying To Say This To You," which is rare since they never pressed all that many. Now it's doubled in price.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'd love a couple of nice original Blue Notes. Just to compare to the Music Matters versions at least.

My New Order Music Complete box came. Box construction was really poor with visible staples. Music is good.

I ordered a passive pre off eBay from Tisbury Audio in the UK. Got sort of curious about just having a volume control between my phono pre and Amp.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I have lots of Blue Notes. But as I've said before, I don't consider myself an audiophile. I collect old, original records because of the historical value of the item. But I buy within reason.
