I saw that too. And it didn't seem to have any special packaging or anything that would prompt that price.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I did gloss over those posts. It didn't seem relevant until I saw it in person.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Aside from the fact that these are re-issued on 180 vinyl, and from a major label, that's the only reason why theses would demand a higher than normal pricing. As I stated some posts back, they even cheaped out on the cover materials. It's a thin and flimsy card stock instead of nice heavier material, and the coloring on some is off, too. That's where they skimped out. Apparently, all the money went into the mastering, though, as these are all new masters for these releases, which from what I've read elsewhere, complete blow just about any previous versions out of the water sonically. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
So it's the 20th anniversary of one of the most influential punk albums of the mid-90's - The Offspring's SMASH and they are taking pre-orders for a nice box set of that vinyl album along with a standard vinyl version. Both vinyls will come with a remastered CD, as well. As much as I want the box I cannot justify the price tag for it, so I'll just get the regular version instead:

Re: The VINYL Thread!
So, I've been eyeballing some of the Queens of the Stoneage albums recently. I admit I have only really listened to Songs for the Deaf...but I really enjoy Josh Homme's musical output. Any suggestions on which album would be best to pick up? Not necessarily looking for more of the same either as I've read a lot of the albums tend to differ from one another.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I personally feel "punk" ended in the early 80s followed by hardcore and then some hardcore-metal hybrid. *
And then you had bands like Green Day that just rehashed the old Dickies sound: But I guess it's a BROAD genre nowadays to encompass anyone with weird hair and electric guitars.

I guess I am just a child of the 70s/80s, when I think punk, I think DK, Fear, Black Flag, Bad Brains, etc. Not that pussy shit Rancid, Green Day and Offspring play...
(* Yes, I understand this is my opinion only and not to be regarded as an attempted factual statement.) |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Funny enough I saw The Dickies open for Offspring in 1999 at Irvine Meadows.

I know you are joking (at least, partially), but, DK was from the SF Bay area and Bad Brains from DC...and, if you were referring to the pussy stuff from the 90s, Rancid and Green Day are from the SF Bay area...so, I am not so sure where LA comes in since (more than) half the bands are from elsewhere.... :)

I would just go in order, I enjoy them all and one thing I enjoy about them is they are all different. The first album (QOTSA) is stoner rock along the lines of Kyuss (whose albums are also worth getting) to Era Vulgaris which has a lot of dance/disco elements in it or .. Like Clockwork which is pretty polished

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Sounds good. I will start with their first release and work my way up. Thanks for the info!

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'll add that even if you don't like the first album, stick with it for a few more.
They're all different and while I like the debut I also think it's the weakest. |
