Are you getting sound okay except for the turntable?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

There are little plugs on the back that have to be in the correct position. It's like a two-pronged headphone jack. On the bottom left of the back as you look at it. They need to be horizontal and not vertical.

If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to send a picture.

I had this problem with my first receiver before sending it back. Turns out, it was user error.

Nope, I've tried sound through the turntable and the FM Tuner and it's the same. Actually, I just realized the faint sound coming out is only coming out of the left channel.

I'm looking but not seeing anything like that, at least to me. I will admit this is my first receiver. If you could post a picture, when you have the chance, it would be highly appreciated!

Sorry for the multi-bump and the horrible image quality:

Okay. I've never posted a picture to a forum before, so here goes. I hope it helps! Do you see the two horizontal little headphone jack looking plugs here? You need them like that. They are the ones in the "Audio" to the right of "Sub Out"

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Basic question: is your receiver set to Phono via the manual controls in the front or via your remote? Switch it to phono if you haven't already.

Your speaker cables (I'm guessing it's the angle) make it seem like they're in reverse polarities.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

For this receiver, for whatever reason, you need these little plugs. Trust me. I sent one back because of this issue. I had the exact problem you're having with the low volume.

I think these are in the bag with the remote, FYI and IIRC.

Since I now know how to post photos and I'm just sitting here listening to albums anyway, here are a few pics I just took of my TT, speakers, and albums.

Very nice.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Right now I'm running everything in FM mode so I have a constant source of sound. And the polarities are definitely right. I think wmermine is on to something, because I never got those jumper plugs in the bag. I just plugged in my RCA cables to loop the sound and now it works perfectly. Thanks a ton everyone!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I hope it works out. I know firsthand how frustrating that is!

Edit - I'm glad it works now! Enjoy!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Thanks much, you really dropped the frustration level for me. Great setup, by the way! I'm heading out tomorrow to a piece of furniture to put this all on.

Thanks! I think my wife got the thing the turntable is on from Target for like $20. The album holder I have is a really nice thing from Pier One she got.

Edit - Let us know how that U-Turn TT is, please.

Loving all the pics.

Picked up my mondo Here Comes The Devil today. Got a variant. Love the variants but at some point they just kinda seem all alike. The color scheme isn't that much different from the Omen.

Let me just say I'm very pleased to finally have a 1991 UK pressing of one of the greatest albums of the 1990's: Teenage Fanclub Bandwagonesque.

Also got a copy of Yo La Tengo's first album, Ride the Tiger, on Coyote Records from 1986.

Good thing I just got a 4x4 and a 2x2 Expedit unit. :)

Can finally deliver. Heading to Electric Fetus today to hopefully add a few albums to my meager collection.

I see that there are Omen vinyls but I'm tempted to scoop up the Here Comes The Devil score instead. (from Mondo)

It is difficult, but I am going to pass on The Omen soundtrack.

Moopher, that is a beautiful setup.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

You need some spread on those speakers.

And looking around at the new wave of vinyl listeners is a sad sight. I can't believe people listen to music on those little portable box turntables. Crosley? Seriously? Complete shit. I guess high fidelity has been lost on the current generation. Get off my lawn.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Like anything, there will be a range from low end to high end, and people will fall on different points of the spectrum. I'd rather people listen to vinyl on low end tables than not listen at all. In time they may choose to upgrade.

I wasn't going to get it, but I love that artwork, so I wound up pulling the trigger.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I will be spreading my speakers out soon. I actually have much larger speakers coming, I just busted these out in the mean time.
