And I just finished spinning the Primus remastered Sailing the Seas of Cheese. It's epic. In fact, it will probably go on my top ten vinyls of 2013, when we get there. Whether you're a Primus fan or not - you should give it a spin. It's extremely funky and mixed really well. No one instrument is overly mixed. Yes, the bass is technically out in front but now the guitars and drums are bit more unified. Oh, what lovely bass sounds emanated from my speakers. Low and tight. They totally fixed the compression.

I'm a sucker for colored and translucent colored vinyl, and I'm not at all afraid to admit it. It's just an added aesthetic bit of coolness that the vinyl medium has over other recorded formats. Spinning a black vinyl album for the audio enjoyment of it is great in itself, but spinning a colored one is somehow even that much better.

Ikea has these cubbies that are perfect for vinyl storage. You can get a shelf with four cubbies for $40. I was going to order four of them, and then noticed Ikea wanted to charge me $91 in shipping! For fucking flat pack. Dicks.
I went to Amazon, found some cheaper shelves, ordered three of those, and they'll arrive tomorrow. I never liked Ikea and this just confirms my feelings.

google "expedit collapse" to see what happens when you put together some of the larger ones incorrectly. Probably best to put backing on them and fasten to studs in the wall when you go that big.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Assembled the Amazon shelves today. Took me most of the day to fill them up, because I put new plastic outer sleeves on all my records, except oversized sets, and put new paper/plastic inner sleeves in for most of them as well. The end result:
I bookended each cubby with music books (books about music, not music notation). You can see some Laurie Anderson ones on the top left there.

I use the Expedit shelving and have no problems. You just have to make sure to assemble them so that the weight-bearing shelves are the ones actually bearing the weight, and also to not try to move them around when they're full.
