Re: The VINYL Thread!

RSD Black Friday list is out

There's actually some decent stuff there.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Not decent enough for me to wake up early. I'll go later in the day (or even Saturday) and pick through the remains.

I get tempted by that live '77 Ramones record, but really, It's Alive is the definitive live record of that era of Ramones. The sound quality is awesome, the performance is fantastic. No reason to get another one.

Whew, nothing I really want on that list, so I'm good.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

probably skip it too. Though I'd never turn down some Dexter Gordon.

Got a shipping notice/label creation from Sacred Bones about the Halloween (2018) vinyl - should probably be here next week sometime.

Dont want to pay the outrageous prices or get up early that day but the talking heads red remain in light looks cool...

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Just started getting into vinyl seriously, and I need to curb my spending. After I said I was done for the next few weeks, I had to get inner and outer sleeves, and a record brush. But I can justify those as necessities...

Now I’m patiently waiting for a Midnite Vultures reissue.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

When I first got back into vinyl, my buying was out of control, buying up my "must haves", but after a few months, I settled way down, and now I buy maybe one a month, or less.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I just wanted to say I was listening to some records last week, and still just blown away by the warmth and clarity you get from the format. Specifically, a copy of The Who's Tommy that I bought in the "All records $5" section at a swap meet (usually the best place to get records that are scratched to shit and borderline unlistenable). Haven't spun anything this week (damn NFL and fall season TV!), but I'm hoping to fire up the turntable over the weekend!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I made a rookie mistake and didn’t realize I need a receiver to hook up the non-powered speakers. FFFF

Re: The VINYL Thread!

^ Don't they make little tube amps for vinyl, less than $200, that are surprisingly good? Especially if you upgrade the tubes for a little more?

Yea totally getting that Type O Negative - thats all that really matters to me

bluetoast 10-15-18 04:36 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I’m thinking of a receiver for the TV as well, since my turntable has a pre-amp. But then people are saying that vintage receivers are good. But I think I’d want to utilize my speakers for the most things possible.

Same here.

I'd KILL for a reissue of the None More Negative box set. That thing goes for wayyyyyy too much.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I finally got a decent turntable today, a U-Turn Orbit. I still need to play around with everything, but just out of the box and hooked up to my receiver, it already sounds great. Spinning Master of Puppets now. :)

I like how The Clash were all about having their albums be sold at regular cost despite being 2 or 3 LPs, and now that they’re broken up, London Calling is over $50, and Sandinista is $60.

Has anybody on here that ordered their Halloween (2018) vinyl from Sacred Bones gotten an actual "in transit" notification? Mine is still at the pre-shipment stage and I am seeing folks on social media with their copies. Granted, this is limited to the limited edition versions. I ordered the orange limited edition.

Re-issues, or original copies? 'Cause even though they don't have control over either, the used market is the used market. I was lucky to find a decent copy of London Calling for $20 not too long ago. I don't need "first pressing", but I definitely wanted analog master, and Train in Vain not listed on the back.

I believe reissue. I should go to a store and check out their selection for older releases.

Check out Discogs.com you can find decent stuff there, but stick to sellers who are 99% or better and don't buy anything less than VG+ vinyl grade, even then it might be a bit spotty, but a good seller should grade the record right.

Sandinsta is going for $22+ shipping for a vinyl of VG+ with a 100% rating seller

Unfortunately, you won't be able to go to a used store and find London Calling in the "Bargain Bin" next to Yodelin' Andy Yodels the Hits. Any store worth their salt is gonna price it accordingly.

Over the weekend I found myself in Temecula CA (if you're not into wine, there's no reason to be there. At all.), where they have a surprisingly good used record store called Old Town Records. Picked up some good stuff:

The Young Fresh Fellows - Totally Lost. This band is hit or miss, but the record is still sealed. Love finding virgin analog vinyl.

Live from the Rat - Live recordings of bands playing at Boston's infamous (and now defunct) Rathskellar, my home away from home in my BU days

Bonnie Hayes With the Wild Combo - S/T and Brave New Girl. Bonnie is most famous for the song playing over the opening credits of Valley Girl, Girls Like Me. It's a catchy song, and the entire Good Clean Fun album has the same vibe. Hoping her subsequent releases (which I've never seen in a store before) are up to par.

Oh man. I didn’t realize you could buy/sell on Discogs, I was mainly using it to look up pressings. This is great, thanks.

I ordered that version as well and according to the tracking number it should get here today. Based on its history, it took a very strange route to Wisconsin.
I also recieved my Waxwork records version today too.

I've had good luck with Reverb LP, an offshoot of Reverb.com (A musical instrument marketplace)
