Re: The VINYL Thread!
Just got the text that the LP is on the carrier vehicle and will be delivered today.
And since it's ONTRAC that's delivering it they will also not even knock on the door to announce themselves. They'll just leave it at the front door as usual. lol

I'm a huge Amazon shopper but I don't get the advantage of Amazon Prime. I pay them $80 to get free 2 day shipping as opposed to free "Super Saver" shipping that I get in 4 days? The advantage is if I order one item under $25. I'd have to do that, say, 20 times a year to recoup the money.
For books, a much better deal is Barnes and Noble where you get free shipping for members and it's only $25 or so. I'm much more likely to impulse buy a single book.
I realize that Prime also gives you video streaming but ... Netflix.

Also, you get items the same day that they're released and maybe a day or two earlier (I do).
It pays itself.

Man, that's gorgeous. Mine still says not yet shipped, but still has a delivery date of tomorrow.
Coincidentally, that's the same company that did the Broken English remaster I picked up at Amoeba.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Spun the Blade Runner score yesterday and it was great! It's the perfect vinyl to get blown to or if you just want to sip a libation.
Also Amazon is currently out of stock on the item. There's several third market seller ones, though. The bad news is that those will not come with the Auto Ripped copy.
Oh, and Amoeba isn't hiring.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Clarify the Blade Runner release for me. Is it all new? Is it the actual Vangelis performed version released in the '90s or is it the lame New American Orchestra version released in the '80s?

Here's an editorial:
The Blade Runner Soundtrack was composed by Vangelis for Ridley Scott's 1982 film considered one of the finest sci-fi movies ever made. It is a melodic combination of classical compositions and synthesizers which mirrors the futuristic film noir envisioned by Scott. The soundtrack holds legendary status and at the time was well-received by fans and critics including Best Original Score nominations for a BAFTA and Golden Globe yet, except for a few cuts, it was not released until 1994
The movie remains a classic film with a long list of popular movie stars including Harrison Ford, Daryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos most of whom appear on this record in movie dialog samples mixed into the 12 tracks of nearly one hour of music. Vangelis makes each track flow into one another. The soundtrack features vocal contributions from Demis Roussos and the sax solo by Dick Morrissey on "Love Theme." The gatefold jacket includes many colorful stills from the film. Blade Runner is a timeless classic film and now on 180g translucent red vinyl.
There's no lame 80's anything on this release.
It's technically a reissue, but it's being reissued on vinyl:

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Sounds like a Vinyl re release of the the 1994 soundtrack. I have that on CD. Never cared for it that much. It has dialogue mixed in on top of the music, is missing many pieces of music from the film, and includes other pieces that weren't in the film.
The BR soundtracks have always been a mess. First release was the lame New American Orchestra version, the second I feel was flawed, and all the subsequent bootlegs and expanded sets are sprawling multi disc nightmares that seem like more than I'm willing to wade in to. After being annoyed for years I finnaly realized that the sound effects, images, and music in blade runner blend so seamlessly that the ideal way to experience the score is to simply watch the film. Frequently the sound effects and music blend in a way that you can't tell if it's the score or an effect. It's beautiful.

^ keep us posted. I'm on the fence on feedbands. I did download the app and there's some good shit on there.
Also saw that the upcoming release of Maniac (Elijah Wood starring) remake score will have a Mondo release LP.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I opened up the box and was presented with this:
Not the best album cover ever, but not the worst either. And besides, I don't judge an album by its cover.
I noticed that the sleeve was flimsier than commercially released records. The vinyl, however, was pretty darn cool:
That's orange translucent vinyl. I wish they had put the name of the band and the record on the label, though. Even if each release is a different color, it can get confusing without any identification on the record itself.
The whole thing came with a letter that had a short, humorous bio of the band and Feedband's take on them:
Also shown there is the biodegradable download code card that has wildflower seeds embedded in it.
And here's the back of the album:
Sound quality seemed good. It's late so I couldn't crank it. It did seem rather scratchy for a newly pressed record, though.
I listened to side A and really liked the music. The band was playing dreamy rock that had some bite but still seemed like it would be fun to listen to while really high. So, all things considered, I'm in for next month. I don't know how long I'll stick with the service, but if the music continues to impress, it could be a while.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Since this thread has been dead for a few days I will revive it with my most recent vinyl purchases!
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away. I really like this new album. It's quiet which lets Warren Ellis shine.
Lee Noble - No Becoming. This was just reissued on vinyl for the first time (previously only available on a super-limited cassette). It's some pretty good ambient-drone stuff. Pretty dark and moody. Some here might dig it. No vocals, just weird instrumentation and atmospherics.
