Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

It is getting really good reviews from publications. I still don't feel like listening to it.

Maybe it will grow on me, but it won't have the chance right now.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

the review from the Washington Post was really snotty and negative:

"But “Reflektor” isn’t neoclassicism. It’s something conservative pretending to be something bold. It’s Sandra Bullock’s hack dialogue in “Gravity.” It’s square, sexless, deeply unstylish, painfully obvious rock music. It’s an album with a song called “Porno” that you could play for your parents. It’s fraud."

Arcade Fire’s ‘Reflektor’: Still devoid of wit, subtlety and danger, now with bongos

Hey Orpheus, Here Comes the Night Time, and Normal Person are some amazing standouts.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

I've only had the chance to listen to the album in bits and pieces - never all the way through in one sitting. Still, I think it's really good, and the songs I was on the fence about at first are getting better each time I hear them.

Apparently David Bowie did backing vocals on one of the tracks. Anyone know which one it is? I haven't heard him yet, but I've also had the album on mostly in the background so I haven't been able to listen closely.

Reflektor. But it sounds like one one other, don't recall which at the moment though.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

I'm having great difficulty getting through the album. I keep getting this overwhelming urge to listen to any of their three prior albums.

I gave in once and switched to Funeral. Reflektor does not fare well in comparison.

One listen through, and there are a couple songs that I would consider duds, but may enjoy more upon repeat listens.
Supersymmetry is awesome, though.

I enjoy the first two albums but The Suburbs was coma inducing so I was wary of this one. It amazing and I have found myself shaking my booty to it in a few places.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

Initially I wasn't all that impressed with the album, seemed very hard to get into. But now after many listens I can say I love the album! Definitely one that completely grew on me. A couple of the songs go on a bit longer than necessary - Supersymmetry especially, but other than that I can't find much fault with it. I usually listen in my car on the way to/from work, and now I almost get sad that I've reached my destination as I have to stop listening to it.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

It's very good, I'll admit. My problem is they hit such a dramatic high with their first album that I often find myself trying to listen to their other (great) albums, but keep going back to "Funeral." They have put out amazingly solid work, but IMO, "Funeral" is just an absolute masterpiece and a modern classic. It's so hard to top.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

I'm late to the party. Going through my first listen today. I absolutely love "We Exist", one of my favorite AF songs...but nothing else has really grabbed me so far :\

It's definitely alot different than previous AF albums. Very...experimental. Reminds me when Radiohead went a completely different direction with OK Computer.

Will update later.

Same here. A real slow burn as to this album.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

just got tickets to the tour next spring from ticketmaster via an American express presale! not the best seats I've ever had for the bridgestone arena, but definitely could do worse... was afraid if I waited till the on sale this Friday I might get worse... prices were somewhat reasonable (considering what some are charging these days)

they've issued a retraction of sorts on their facebook page saying:

"to everyone really upset about us asking people to dress up at our shows... please relax, it's super not mandatory. it just makes for a more fun carnival when we are all in it together. so far these have been the best shows we have ever played. see you soon, love, arcade fire

Seeing this band in a hockey arena just seems so incredibly wrong...

Maybe they'll let you skate in the rink if you bring your own skates.

That's racist. Just because I'm Canadian doesn't mean I own a pair of skates.

Agreed. Saw then in a theater back in Neon Bible days, and it was amazing. Saw them in a club in Funeral days and it was spectacular (plus, they walked out of the venue and shut down a major street for an encore). Saw them in an arena for The Suburbs and it was good.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

I've listened to the album a couple times now and the only songs I love are We Exist and Afterlife. It's not a bad album, but it is a step down from their previous work, imo.

The Suburbs is much, much better.

Re: Arcade Fire -- Fourth Studio Album -- 2013

There were a few outtakes from Arcade Fire's album Reflektor. Two previously unreleased offcuts, "Get Right" and "Crucified Again", will be released as a single in conjunction with the forthcoming Arcade Fire documentary, the Reflektor Tapes. That's the artwork above.

According to the Rough Trade store (via Arcade Fire Tube), it'll be available as a limited edition 7". As yet there's no release date, but pre-orders begin September 25.

Watch a trailer for the Reflektor Tapes:
