Tame Impala : Lonerism
This Aussie psychedelic guitar rock band recently released of of the best albums so far this year (IMO).

To me, they sound like a combination Beatles, T. Rex, Sabbath and Hawkwind. It's a great album, don't miss it. Also, their debut "Innerspeaker" from two years ago was one of the best debuts of the last few years.

I thought Innerspeaker was easily the best release of that year in any genre. Truly one of the best albums I've ever heard. I gave Lonerism a listen streaming from my laptop a few weeks ago. Terrible idea. I thought it was terrible. Got my vinyl in the mail a few days ago and after repeat listens on a really nice pair of headphones and cranked on the stereo, I must say my original impression was completely wrong. Amazing album.

I've been thru it a few times now, and while I like the music quite a bit, the vocals really bring it down for me. There is nothing distinctive, remarkable, or interesting about the singer's voice. It's just kind of bland and wimpy.

Re: Tame Impala : Lonerism
This was one of those albums where I liked the one song - "Elephant" - and the rest of the record left me cold, and didn't do a thing for me. Lot of friends had it on their yearly "Best of 2012" lists, though. I just couldn't hear what they were hearing.
