Ah. Gotcha. I'm kinda confused now, 'cause some sources say it was a custom arrangement of the Vitamin String Quartet cover done by the Q Department (with the addition of harp and triangle or something similar), and some say that the Q Department did their own cover from scratch. If so, the string part sounds suspiciously similar to the VSQ version. Either way, it seems the Q Department version is not available anywhere. Bummer.

But that's technically what they are. "Cover" has been misused to mean remake. To cover a song originally meant to have a big name artist swoop in and release a version of a newly-written song before some upstart (usually the songwriter themselves) released theirs...thereby "covering" them (the upstart would get smothered and would go unheard).

I tend to think of these as the "definitive versions", covers that really put the originals to shame.
