What concert did you recently attend?

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I saw Depeche Mode on 9/7. And never again. I've been purchasing their music since 1982 and have seen them nearly 20 times over the last 30 years. But these guys just need to call it quits. While I still like their studio work somewhat, even that has become subpar to their best work. Arguably 1984-1992 with "Ultra" and "Playing the Angel" thrown in. And they used to be so great live. The past three tours however supporting their last three albums have had almost the same exact set list each time. But I went to this show with an open mind any way. And found nothing enjoyable about it. This band has long checked out. They are just going through the motions at this point. There was nothing exciting, no energy. It felt so tired. Right down to the boring stage design and backdrop/videos. And the crowd was the worst I've ever seen at a D.C. show. People were either just standing there lifeless or were sitting down. Dave Gahan could barely muster anything from them with his signature yelling to get them to cheer. Since these tours are cash cow for them, they are never going to change a thing. And that makes me both sad and angry.

Here's the video of the band walking out to “Wake Up” with an accompaniment by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Last weekend saw Royal Blood & Queens of the Stone Age. Great show, simple stage setup for both bands and just a straightforward rock show.

Wife and I saw a bucket list show for her last night.
Air Supply
She's been a fan since the 80's so we got VIP package, with a meet and greet, attend the sound check and front row center seats.
It was really good. Better than I expected. Their voices are still strong even in their late 60's. Not a show I would have went to on my own, but she was so thrilled it made it worth every penny.

The Chameleons Vox last night in Boston.
Original singer/bass player/composer Mark Burgess, and he looked and sounded great. Really captured the classic sound of the band.

Saw Epica, Lacuna Coil,. Insomnium and Elantris on Friday night. All the bands were great. Cristina from Lacuna Coil came out to sing with Epica for the song "Storm The Sorrow" . It completely surprised me and made the show extra special.
Also saw the Muppets at the Hollywood Bowl (September 9th). That was a fun show.

Dark Tranquillity, Warbringer, and Striker last night. Very different styles of music on this tour. Striker is old school 80s rock metal like a heavier Triumph maybe? I was there for Warbringer bringing back the pure 80s style thrash sound of Slayer, Exodus and Death Angel. I wasn't familiar with Dark Tranquillity, but it was interesting to see Arch Enemy's Christopher Amott playing guitar for them on this tour.

Avatar, Of Mice & Men, and In This Moment last night at the House of Blues in Chicago. Very entertaining evening, Of Mice & Men, although a strong performance without their lead singer, became forgettable unfortunately between two theatrical acts. I was really impressed with In This Moment this time around, previously it seemed gimmicky and burlesque-like.

@Rex Fenestrarum: Here's that show I mentioned earlier. Found it online again. It's absolutely amazing.

Caught Zakk Wylde's Black Sabbath tribute band Zakk Sabbath in Milwaukee. No real breaks between songs, just 90 minutes straight of Sabbath tunes. Disappointed that I didn't get to see him play with his teeth like he did with Ozzy at Chicago Open Air.

Saw Apocalyptica at The Mayan last night. They played nothing but Metallica songs. The first part of their set was them was playing the album "Apocalyptica plays Metallica with Four Cellos" The second half consisted of other Metallica songs that they have covered. I was really happy to hear them covering "Fight Fire With Fire" and "Escape" Great show!

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Just bought a ticket to see Sparks in San Francisco in 2 weeks- the first show has already sold out, so they added a 2nd show at 11:30 PM which is at least on a Friday so even if I'm employed again by then I should be able to hack it. They've played in that area a few times the past few years and I've always missed them, they likely won't come to Sacramento and I want to see them at least once before they end up retiring.
I saw Depeche Mode in Sacramento back in 1988, show was good but sound was ridiculously loud- reason I haven't gone to many concerts since then. I value my hearing too much.

We went to this recent tour and my fiancee couldn't take it. We go to a lot of shows and that was abnormally loud.
