I gotta disagree with you. Top 40 Pop is filled with nothing but overly auto-tuned corporate creations/products that cannot or can barely perform live. Taylor Swift is another who sounds horrible live. I do agree with you about Bieber :)

The only Top 40 act I like at this time is Adele. The woman can sing!

I thought top 40 was moving the right direction when I saw Janelle Monae, Bruno Mars, et al. killing it at the Grammys earlier this year. I would love to see a return to rootsy soul and R&B pop music with artists who appreciate the classic sounds, play their own instruments, and can actually belt out songs without nonsense vocal gymnastic scales.

These musicians seem to be in the minority in the Top 40 now. Raphael Saadiq is another one with great potential.

Exactly. Nothing more than pieces of ass with an entire team of writers, producers, and studio folk handling all the "talent" end. As long as they look good semi-naked, and can pull off a few dance moves, they're good to go. They'll fix the audio in production, then just pipe it in for live performances. But the sheeple will flock to it, so why change?

Ever read 1984 by Orwell? In Big Brother's totalitarian world, pop music was written by machines and fed to the proles in order to keep them distracted and happy. As long as their feet were tapping, they didn't question the quality. Smart guy, that Orwell.
