Aerosmith has been 'downhill', hell at the bottom of the hill, since the 70's breakup.

Sobriety totally ruined that band. What they came out with after reuniting in the later 80's was just embarrassing pop music crap.

Like a few songs. Not a huge fan, only have Greatest Hits. Don't care for American Idol. That dropped him in my eyes.

I was going to say the exact same thing.
I lost respect when he stopped doing drugs.

That's a lot of misspellings of the same word

I lost what little was left of my respect for the man on May 27, 2001:

Dude's nothing but a fucking clown these days. 1970's Steven Tyler would kick Current Steven Tyler's ass for the joke he's made of himself.

Buy Rocks and Toys in the Attic and dump the greatest hits. All you need to have and essential 70's rock.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

I think there also should have been as voting choices the day they signed with Geffen, their appearance in "Sgt Pepper's" (the movie), when Tyler's voice changed, when they started making videos, and definitely when they did the Super Bowl halftime show with Britney Spears.

Perhaps naming the thread "When did you begin to lose respect for Aerosmith?" would have worked better, being that the band was involved in more of these than just Tyler signing on with Idol.

I love the picture! lol He does look like Mrs. Greenberg down the street!

I voted Armageddon, but really he lost me at "Love in an Elevator."

I agree with this, but the American Idol gig is definitely a notch below. If there was still Love Boat, American Idol would be a notch below even that.

So you would rather Tyler and Perry killed themselves nearly 30 years ago due to drug overdoses.

Nice.

Really classy.

What a compassionate caring human being you are.

Why do you assume they would have overdosed? They might have lived long, fruitful, alcohol and drug-filled lives making balls to the wall rock music...like Keith Richards.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

First of all, Aerosmith is the answer to a personal trivia question. (My first ever rock concert in 1975)

I will always respect Tyler for the great music, however, the American Idol thing is really hard to take, but that doesn't mean I'm going to watch just because Tyler is a judge, after all, I got this far without watching AI, so it will be easy enough to ignore.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

I saw Aerosmith live for New Years 98 and 99. When they chose "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" as the song to bring in the new year in 99 I lost "Respect" (not what I'd call it but whatever) for the band.

My you're a sensitive one. If a joke about a burned out rock star is too much for you to take, you're in the wrong place, newb.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

I haven't liked anything they did past Get a Grip, which was my first major exposure to them. Toys in the Attic was my first album by them, which is an awesome album, and everything else is good to tolerable. After Get a Grip, though, complete dreck.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

Some of you make me laugh. Really.

Aerosmith is the band that I like more, (more songs at least), that I don't have any CD, LP, cassette, mp3 from them. But I really like them. Some songs from the 70s, some from the 80's, some from the 90's. I'm not sure about the 00's.

Heh, Tyler, Perry...

I love Sweet Emotion but the rest of their output I'm mixed on.

Yes because if someone's opinion isn't the same as yours it's wrong right?

Anyone who can't stand seeing an alternative opinion without succumbing to the temptation to "trash talk" needs to question what they're doing here before I do. This includes members old and new. Read the sticky, please.

Good shit for sure.

Re: When Did You Lose Respect for Steven Tyler?

Despite everything, I do find he has an amazing voice.
They were also fantastic as a live act when I finally saw them live last year.

So in those ways they still have my respect.

Certainly not. However, I sense many only know Aerosmith (post-reunion) and I am betting many of those are the ones voting "always a shitty band". I wouldn't have been able to find anyone who was there in the 70's who would've made such a comment.
