Good Winter (but not Christmas) music

Well with the Christmas season behind us, I got to thinking about how there are a number of songs we consider Christmas songs that aren't really about Christmas just winter in general (e.g. Walking in a Winter Wonderland).

That got me thinking, what are some songs that you think go hand in hand with winter? For me, for some reason the entire album Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet seems like a perfect album to listen to in the winter. Maybe it's because one of the first times I heard it I happened to be driving during a snowstorm but ever since then it's always made me think of winter and snow.

Any that immediately come to mind for you?

Amon Amarth. "And Soon The World Will Cease To Be."

The northern winds bring snow and ice. Humans starve and freeze
The Fimbulwinter has arrived and soon the world will cease to be

Aqualung by Jethro Tull is my favorite "Christmas" album.

I always correlated XTC's Skylarking with winter.

The following either mention winter, or have a winter feel (in my opinion):

Brick - Ben Folds Five
China - Tori Amos
Mull of Kintyre - Paul McCartney
What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Re: Good Winter (but not Christmas) music

Tchaikovsky's 1st Symphony, Winter Dreams.

Vivaldi, Glazuonov, Haydn, many other classical composers wrote works on the Four Seasons, one of which is Winter.

Sting's If On a Winter's Night qualifies.

Good call on Walk Out to Winter by Aztec Camera, I love that song.

As for the Edgar Winter, is "Still Alive and Well" the album title or is that just him saying he's not dead(since he looks like a corpse!)

Re: Good Winter (but not Christmas) music

I'm going to add Sarah McLachlan's albums Fumbling Toward Ecstasy and Surfacing. Again maybe it's that I first heard them around the start of winter but they seem to fit the time of year very well.

Re: Good Winter (but not Christmas) music

I associate this with winter:

It kinda helps knowing that Bon Iver is misspelled French for "good winter" and that this album was recorded in a Wisconsin cabin one winter. It just gives off a chilly vibe when I listen to it.

And, of course, Apathy's "The Winter":

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Agdxl75WVQ4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Agdxl75WVQ4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

(I prefer this remix, based on a Nine Inch Nails song.)
