I thought the band sounded okay in that clip (and the tuned down sound is pretty much just how modern sabbath sounds), but ozzy sounded like shit in that clip. At least he looked more or less coherent, compared to now.

It's pretty common for Iommi and Geezer to down tune on tour, it's easier on the singer's voice. Compare the clip above to some of the 70s concerts on youtube and they sound pretty consistant through the years.

As a matter of fact, the Live At Last album which was recorded from the Black Sabbath IV tour in 1973 is all in drop C.

I'd say the move to drop tunings was a combination of creative choice and necessity due to Tony's fingers. And the changes have stood them well...

He is still awesome and you have no clue what you are talking about.

Go listen to Justin Timberfag!

It was called the Rock & Roll Super Bowl or something like that. Foreigner headlined. Ozzy, Loverboy and LeRoux (sp?) were the supporting acts.

The thing I remember about Foreigner's set was when they had a giant, inflatible jukebox for Jukebox Hero.

I think the best live black sabbath footage is easily the Paris 1970 show

Uh... was that... directed towards ME? If I'm into old-school Ozzy, why the hell would I listen to Justi... ah, fuck it. Why do I even bother?

Say what you will about Justin Timberlake's music, but he would kick Ozzy's ass hosting SNL.

All I know is Jake E. Lee was the best guitarist he ever worked with. Yeah I said it. Jake was an absolute monster in the 80's. Great rhythm player, superb soloist with great tone, phrasing and vibrato and tons of stage presence.

Had RR lived I'm sure the story would have been different.

Jake E. Lee is underrated, but he was no Randy Rhoads.

True, but in some respects Randy Rhoads was no Jake E. Lee. Jake had a really good style that was a little more blues based than Randy's, which made him a great choice (as he wasn't just a Randy clone).

There was a time, some years ago here in Music Talk, when the trash-talking to be seen/heard was getting out of control.

The only solution that I saw, apart from referring those I thought had a hope of benefitting from it to the stickied DOs & DONTs thread, was to implement/enforce a "zero tolerance" policy. After a few months of suspending all those unwilling to rein in their immediate wish to slam others on matters of subjectivity, the incidence of uncivility decreased markedly.

JeffTheAlpaca, I really don't know what you expected to achieve by the above comment, but I've determined that you can take a posting holiday of at least one week before making any more.

(If you wish to argue the point with me off-board, please think again, as my decision is made, is in accordance with the rules, and any special pleading is highly likely to cause me to raise the tariff until I can be assured that you understand wht is acceptable here and what isn't).

Ozzy. 1984. Donington Monsters Of Rock. First time I ever saw Ozzy, and probably the best. He was off his head, completely insane and it was fantastic.

It was mind-numbingly awesome.
Did they do any Sabbath era songs or was it essentially all of the Blizzard of Ozz album? I didn't get a chance to see Ozzy until the Bark At The Moon tour.
I guess Blizz is the only solo Ozzy album you like....

IIRC Iron Man, Paranoid & Children of the Grave (or maybe War Pigs?) usually got an airing.

Re: Let's talk about how awesome Ozzy was...

As far as Ozzy goes, I'm only really a fan of the first two albums (which are stone-cold classics, no doubt). He's coming here in February. I've never seen him before, kinda ambivalent about going to see him. Just not very enthusiastic. On the other hand, if Sabb reformed and toured, I'd machete my way to the front of the box office...

First time was the Ultimate Sin tour when Metallica opened. Wanted to see the Speak of the Devil Tour, but apparently my mom thought 13 was too young to go see Ozzy.
