"I Want The World To Stop" is classic B&S, and I'm getting more & more into the rest of the album. Give the album some more time, and maybe you'll find a way to like it.

If not, that's fine, but calling for them to break up because one guy doesn't like the new stuff is a little silly.

I've been listening to this most of the day, and its definitely not that bad. Some boring stuff, but a few stand-out tracks. Not "record of the year" material but pretty enjoyable.

I sort of see the point BUT The Model, Women's Realm, There's Too Much Room, and Storytelling are some of the best B&S songs ever.

I haven't listened to the new album yet but I hope you're wrong.

Sounds decent, or at least a little more consistent than The Life Pursuit.
In any case, it's only $7.99 at Best Buy so I'll definitely pick it up.

Yes, they recorded four good songs in four years.

The new album just seems like it has no reason to exist. Especially after they successfully kicked the doors off their sound with their past two albums. It's pleasant, I guess, but it doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it'll grow on me; I dunno.

That said, I bought a copy today.

Got a vinyl copy at Amoeba today, as it came with a free MP3 download of the album and a free 7". So far it's pleasant.

Finished my first listen. I liked it a lot. It's not as spectacular as their last two records, but it's a very solid set of songs, and if nothing else the title track is a bona fide B&S instant classic.

Neat contest sponsored by Matador - Stuart will fly to the winner's hometown, hang out for an afternoon, and then write a song about you to be released on an exclusive 7" : link

Opened the thread to post something similar. I don't get the Norah duet (just heard it a few minutes ago). The song doesn't suck, but it seemed kind of unnecessary. First listen and I think there is a dropoff from the last couple of releases. However, it still kicks the snot out most other stuff being released today.

Fair enough. I was just giving you a hard time

The Norah Jones song is my least favorite.

I will never understand why so many people think the early 2000s period was a nadir. I love FYHC, YWLAP, though I will say maybe that's because it was my first B&S album and around 2000 was when I started listening to them. Still, I love most everything they've done. They have some growers, but it's all very good.

They definitely went through some serious growing pains around that time. They lost two members and were going from a shambling mess of a live band that eschewed any publicity to what they are today. Not to mention the fact that it took them a good four or five years to figure out how to go from a Stuart Murdoch backing band to becoming an actual band with song contributions from other members.

My opinion now is that aside from four or five good songs, Peasant comes across as a B&S parody album. "Nice Day for a Sulk" indeed.

The Norah Jones song is pretty brutal. I can just envision the band rolling their eyes at Murdoch for that idea.

After listening to the whole album, I have to agree with Tracer Bullet to an extent. It's not that great. I don't want them to break up though. Seems perhaps Stuart Murdoch wasted some good songs in the God Help The Girl project and should have just jettisoned some of the weaker tunes on the albums and made one good one. Too much Sarah too.

FYI - the new CD is $7.99 now on Amazon. I hadn't ordered it yet because I was traveling for business, so I'm happy to get it at this price.

Re: Belle & Sebastian: Write About Love - Oct. 12th

Come On Sister, I Want the World to Stop and Write About Love are the standout tracks for me.

Write About Love is my favorite track, but that's also probably due in large part to the fact that I have a thing for Carey Mulligan ...
