School me on New Found Glory
I have a photo pass to shoot New Found Glory next week at The Starland Ballroom in NJ. My photos are likely getting published by a rock web site after the show. As part of the publishing I have to write a brief review of the show.
I would like to get a bit acquainted with the band before I shoot them. I know they were popular a few years back when skater/punk was popular but what are some of their big songs I should listen to? Anything interesting I should know about them?
The kicker is my best friend's cousin is a band member so we will be hanging with them before and after the show. I would like to have a bit of knowledge although I don't plan on faking being an expert.

Nothing Gold Can Stay is the only album they've ever recorded that isn't completely putrid. Do your ears a favor and stick to that one. I dunno, talk about how they've sampled movie bits in their songs. But seriously, this band is terrible.

Big songs are...
Dressed to Kill
Hit or Miss
My Friends Over You
Head On Collision
All Downhill From Here
I Don't Wanna Know
They also have a couple of cds called From the Screen to Your Stereo where they do covers of songs best known from movies. Glory of Love and Kiss Me are a couple that have made it into their sets.
The cd they're touring behind now is Not Without A Fight. It's their first release on indy label Epitaph Records.
They put on a pretty good live show. Very energetic.

I was a huge fan of these guys back in the day. Great live band, saw them probably 10 times in the few years I paid attention to them. The self-titled album and Nothing Gold Can Stay are the only good albums they put out though. They lost me with Sticks and Stones and only got worse after that. Haven't listened to the newest album. I have no idea how much of the self-titled and Nothing Gold they play these days, considering those albums are about 10 years old.
As for specific songs you should check out, here's a list of their singles. They also apparently have a greatest hits album that covers their career except for the newest album.

So I must say that these guys do put on a great show. Not exactly my style of music, but after hanging out with them for 4 hours in the green room I couldn't believe the energy they brought out on stage.

According to that setlist, they played the self-titled in its entirety. Looks like I was way off when I suggested they might not play many of those songs!
Maybe I'll have to hit this tour up when it comes to Seattle, for old time's sake (the fact that Saves The Day and Fireworks are playing with them doesn't hurt either).
Sweet pics too! Glad you had a good time.

Guitarist Chad Gilbert sang in a much better band at 15 years old called Shai Hulud, who put out their best album with him. He quit to do this shit. Although, I do quite enjoy the NFG spin off band 'the international superheroes of hardcore', who do a rather humorous riff on shitty brocore-hardcore. I believe Chad sings for it.

Re: School me on New Found Glory
not only did he have a Taylor Swift shirt on, but one of his guitars (bass) was signed by Taylor Swift. Ian was cool as hell by the way. Really really nice guy. I spent about 4 hours with him before the show.
And boy does he like being shirtless.
Thanks. It's the 10 year anniversary of their self titled album and are playing it the whole tour, or at least they made it sound like that.
I really liked Saves the Day. More my speed. I have a few pics from them as well that I will post up tonight.
Just found out these pics are getting published.
