Re: a-ha farewell tour - ending on a high note US dates

The video for the last a-ha song ever, Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah), has been released. I have to admit that it brought me several chills and a moist eye. Incorporates images from their early videos, and bittersweetly closes an era while hinting at a future of individual contributions. Beautiful.

wow I don't think I've ever seen Paul look so old before, scary. I didn't really care for the song when it came out but the video is interesting probably because it's directed by Steve Barron who did a lot of their early videos.

Yeah, poor Paul has never been a looker. I wonder if that's the root behind his personality conflict with Morten. It must be kind of sucky to be the brains behind the music (as the main songwriter) but have all the attention focused on the better looking guy.

The singer was fair but got it wrong
He never did justice to my song
He did more for me and that's a fact
When he went and stabbed me in the back
So I've gotta do now don't you know
What I should have done five years ago.

I have that savoy cd and am familiar with the lyrics... and I've read the a-ha biography "Swing of Things"... but I'm confused - exactly what is it that Morten supposedly did to pal that he considered "stabbed me in the back"?

I think he was angry that Morten was more interested in going off with his solo career at that time. I'm not exactly sure 100% but that would be my guess.

Supposedly, the "song" he didn't do justice to was the song "Angel In The Snow", which Paul wrote as a wedding present for his wife Yoko Lauren. I guess Morten insisted on singing it differently than Paul wanted. That contributed to the band's "breakup" after the Memorial Beach album (the stabbing in the back part), and Paul starting his own band with Yoko Lauren, which is what he means by the something he should have done 5 years ago.

That's what I've pieced together over the years, anyway.

Re: a-ha farewell tour - ending on a high note US dates

That makes sense. I thought the breakup had to do with Memorial Beach selling very poorly. They were playing lots of smaller venues in 1993-1994. I think they thought the interest just wasn't there even though they were at their musical peak by far IMO. Man I wish they didn't split up, terrible decision. I think Morten thought his solo career would mean bigger and better things.

WOO-HOO - great news!

Several German online stores are now taking pre-orders for Ending On A High Note, the recording of the final a-ha concerts in Oslo Spektrum, which is set for release on 1 April and will be available on CD, DVD, CD/DVD (deluxe) and Blu-ray.

This will be the first a-ha Blu-ray release. The concerts in Oslo were filmed with ten HD cameras.

Cover image and other info is not yet available.

A-ha played four farewell concerts in their hometown, Oslo. The first homecoming farewell show was November 30th. I attended the three last ever a-ha concerts: December 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2010. I rate the December 2nd and 3rd concerts 8/10, and the very last maybe a 9/10, as they gave a bit more the last night, and Morten sang even better on Scoundrel Days!

I highly encourage even the most casual a-ha fan to buy this concert film!

I do not believe the concert film to only have material from December 4th. December 3rd had the motorized camera dolly running on tracks behind the drumkit between the one side and the other side of the stage. On December 4th it was at the front of the stage, running along the crowd barrier. The crane camera was in the center-right area of the floor on December 3rd and on the front left on December 4th. So if the finished concert film has dolly shots from the front and the back of the drumkit, and/or has crane shots from two different positions – which I believe it will have – then the film is cut from at least two shows, the December 3rd and the December 4th show.

In addition to the camera dolly and the crane camera, they had numerous big camera rigs near the audio mixing desk, and there might have been handheld cameras and other fixed cameras too. And they most likely stored footage coming off the cameras feeding the video wall for all the Oslo shows.

[The BD] will include a documentary and a gallery of photos by Stian Andersen.

The first confirmed release date is April 1 for Germany and Norway; the rest of the world will follow soon after (full release schedule still to be confirmed). There will be an NTSC version available for fans in North America and Japan as well.

*Please note the Bluray version will likely come out on April 8 or 15 – we will post an update when we have more information.
