It isn't uncommon for suicide attempts around Xmas. I like that the article is "He's in a coma" and the link is "Vic Chesnutt dies at 45."

Re: Vic Chesnutt is brain dead
Living close to Athens all these years I was very aware of his musical input, but never really got into it that much. I actually will probably remember him most from Sling Blade. He always did come across as a bit cantankerous. Still find this news very sad.

This is really sad. You can download a 6-song sampler for free from his web site: http://vicchesnutt.com/home/audio/
One of the songs from his last album "At The Cut" is "Flirted With You All My Life" which talks frankly about death and his suicide attempts. It's poignant, and in some ways reminds me of Warren Zevon's "The Wind."
"Flirted with You all My Life"
I am a man
I am self-aware
And everywhere I go
You're always right there with me
I've flirted with you all my life
Even kissed you once or twice
And to this day I swear it was nice
But clearly I was not ready
When you touched a friend of mine
I thought I would lose my mind
But I found out with time that
really I was was not ready, no no
Oh, Death
Oh, Death
Oh, Death
Really, I'm not ready
Oh, Death you hector me
Decimate those dear to me
Tease me with your sweet release
You are cruel and you are constant
When my mom was cancer sick
She fought but then succumb to it
But you made her beg for it
Lord Jesus, please I'm ready.
Oh, Death
Oh, Death
Oh, Death
Really, I'm not ready (repeat)

Re: Vic Chesnutt is brain dead
Frank Orrall of Poi Dog Pondering posted this on his Facebook page yesterday:
"ALOHA Vic Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) We met Vic during our street playing days, while visiting Athens Georgia. we traded songs in the back yard. Sweet guy; A Grande Poet. We're Very sad so know we will not run into him again in this world. But he is here in our hearts, His songs glow on like fireflys in the American night."

I stand by my selfish bastard comment...
...off yourself on a random fucking Tuesday in June... don't do it around a major holiday so that you ruin the holiday for years to come for every one of your family and close friends who then become constantly reminded about your death. it's selfish.

I'm in such pain that I've made the huge decision to end my own life. Better check the calendar to make sure there are no major holidays or birthdays anytime soon!

Re: Vic Chesnutt is brain dead
whatever. Look, I have no problems with suicide... it's your life, do what you want with it... just be sure to do it right, if you're truly going to do it for real so the collective doesn't have to pay the steep medical costs to keep you on a vent for the next 30 years. I'm just saying, have a WEE BIT of respect for your friends and family (unless, of course, they were all raging ****s to you), and don't turn an otherwise fond and happy occasion into something so morose. selfish! that's all I'm saying.

you know what, nevermind. this particular thread isn't the time or place for a discussion like this.

If you're suffering from enough depression to actually off yourself, then you probably don't think your family and friends particularly give a shit about you.

Lame joke. Not at all funny, and already told on page one of this thread.

to the "selfish bastard" comment.
